Oh, for Pete's sake. A big reason for keeping some of these teams (I.e. wbb, wvb, golf) has a great deal to do with Title IX compliance. There really is no choice.

Miami got legitimately screwed in perpetuity by the Florida school and frankly should’ve sued them. Changing to Oxford would help them so much.

Rest of MAC is fine. Ohio, Toledo, Akron, Buffalo the best followed by Ball/Kent/Bowling Green. Nothing wrong with directionals.

I always thought we could go back to being Michigan State Normal School. But we'd lose the Block E. And as you can tell, I kinda like the block E.

Forget the whole 'Oxford University' thing - you'd never get the recognition of the original Oxford University (that one in England). You'd just be considered 'Oxford Jr', or 'The other Oxford University', or even worse, 'Oxford University of Ohio'

And of course, Michigan State Abnormal School is in East Lansing.

I'm puzzled. What Egyptian forebearers does Toledo have?

I assume he's going by the acronym TUT. At least, I'm not familiar with an Egyptian named TUOT.

Pretty nice of him. I guess that's why he's so popular.

RE: Renaming of MAC Schools
How about this:

U of Akron (students & faculty seem to like it)
Kent University (everyone should know by now it's a state university and not a private school)
Bowling Green University (see Kent)
University of Oxford (that keeps it separate from the UK one, unless that is the UK one. Then Oxford University)
Ohio (see Akron)
Illinois Tech University (rather than IIT, which looks a little weird, I took a page out of Texas Tech's & Louisiana Tech's book instead of GIT's-Georgia Institute of Technology, MIT's-Massachusetts Institute of Technology, & OIT's-Oregon Institute of Technology)
U of Toledo (see Akron)
UWM (a little different. More prestigious directional universities use U of direction rather than direction U)
Ypsilanti University (it's been mentioned in this thread, and I like it!! It helps to distinguish the Eagles!!)
UCM (see UWM)
Ball University (maybe??)

Howabout Going with Western University of Michigan? WUM? And if you call it 'Ball University', LaVar Ball will say you named it after him.

Also - if you can't remember if it's Oxford University or University of Oxford, no one else will either, the same way no one outside of Ohio knows which school is Miami University and which is University of Miami. You're solving one problem by creating an identical problem. Maybe try Miami State University? Or maybe University of Southwest Ohio? Or maybe University of Northern Cincinnati? Benjamin Harrison University?

There is nothing wrong with Miami University. They already have a very good academic brand and reputation.

And another thing....

...With Miami University and the whole NCAA ban on Indian names being used as team names, maybe the North Dakota Fighting Sioux should have been inspired by Miami - they could change the school name to 'Fighting Sioux University'
