Not disrespectful to this NIU alumni.

Love my alma mater, think our "directional name" is an injustice and marketing hindrance to the school. All for a change to Illinois Tech or Prairie State University.

Too confusing with IIT and Prairie View AM.

IIT, a definite confusion issue there to be discussed or negotiated. But the 5.3% chance anyone would confuse us with Prairie View AM would be WELL WORTH IT if it meant removing ourselves from the directional school list.

I would rather remain NIU than any of those.

Speaking from a purely athletics standpoint, particularly football, I think NIU has a decent brand right now.

Any brand we've built under our directional label would certainly have been a little bigger utilizing a more brand-able name. There would certainly be some setback with a name change, guessing much of the recognition would carry over though.

I'm all for ripping off the band-aid, unfortunately opinions are mixed on the subject over at the NIU board.

I must fix this for you, unfortunately. Without football success we're a Nebraska-Omaha in the Summit.

I think kicking out some teams from the MAC (cough cough EMU, Kent St) and bringing in some CUSA teams(cough cough Marshal, MTSU, WKU) would do the conference much more justice than renaming the freaking Schools, gimme a break.

Again, since you live in fantasy land where the MAC can add schools not interested in joining, let’s go with USC (either) OSU (any of them) and Oberlin (easy win, helps the academic side). We could rename them University of Not Northern California/Carolina, Not O-H-I-O State It’s Taken in Athens University and Not Any Good University. Your obsession with dropping multi-time MAC Champs EMU and KSU grows old.

Excuse me for wanting to terminate dumpster fire programs that continue to underperform the rest of the conference, struggle to get fans, are in terrible locations, have massive subsidies, and are academic institutions that just don’t fit the bill for FBS programs. Look at all the football figures that have come out of Kent st’s program, none of them want to come back and coach, none of them want to improve the program, and none of them donate back. I don’t understand why so many people are against trying to bring back Marshal or bring in MTSU or WKU, I’ve talked to many fans that would be in favor of MAC conf realignment. Sorry but the weeknight maction clash between Kent st and Ball st just doesn’t rev my engine, not sure why it does for you.

I don't see Marshall knocking on our door right now, but if they did, I would be for this.

Way to try and hijack a thread that is not about expansion or contraction with your trolling that has already gotten two threads locked. There is a realignment forum, you know.

This thread is already about trolling. You’re talking about remaining universities to get more appeal. Let’s go ahead and rename Alabama and Villanova while we’re at it, those names drag the schools down too much.

RE: Renaming of MAC Schools
Why get rid of Kent? They are the largest school in the MAC, directly in our footprint, with the best overall sports???

Even though they have been in the dump for football lately they were still 1 win away from an Orange Bowl birth in 2012. Who else can say that in the MAC? NIU, WMU, and vaguely Toledo in 2015.

Not just lately, they are historically one of the worst football programs in CFB. As for that 2012 season, they still lost to Kentucky, they didn’t win the MAC, and they didn’t even win their bowl game against Arkansas st. And even when they have a decent season they still can’t get 20k fans to show up to their home games. Don’t even get me started on EMU.

This thread has to be one of the most inane & absurd threads I have seen. WMU athletics are basically non-existent and/or non-competitive in spring sports, so I guess you need to fill your time with this type of drivel until the all mighty football season starts. Meanwhile, I will keep following KSU.

• baseball…MAC regular season champs, hoping for an NCAA bid – no mid-major here.
• women’s golf team… tied for fifth in the NCAA D1 no mid-major here.
• men’s golf team… NCAAs this weekend – no mid-major here.
• track & field team… 17 athletes going to the NCAAs – no mid-major here.

You should be grateful KSU is representing all of the MAC, because believe it or not, these sports are relevant.

There, you got me to bite (I swore I would not stoop to this).

p.s. In five or so years, pay attention who will be enshrined in the NFL HOF.
