I remember hearing something awhile back, and it may have just been fan-fiction, about a couple MAC schools considering a name change to attract more students and boost the schools’ pull. I believe it was Akron to Ohio Tech and Bowling Green St to Ohio A&M. Is there or was there anything to it? Would this help?

Ohio Tech is in Cleveland. Ohio State was originally Ohio A&M back when it opened in 1873.

The "directional" MAC members need better nomenclature the most, including NIU. Would love to see them become Illinois Tech (sort of taken) or Prairie State University, etc..

I thought Akron was trying to brand themselves as "Ohio's Polytechnic University" but idk if they were ever considering an actual name change.

Wouldn’t be an improvement in brand clarity because down south, “DeKalb” is inexplicably pronounced “DeCAB.”

How about Dekalb University of Mining? Hybrid University of Dekalb might bring in big Federal dollars.

I still think UB should change its name to New York State University.

It'll bring extra publicity if you appropriate an existing acronym - so if you go with "Illinois - DeKalb/Kishwaukee" you could say "idk if it's IDK"

It might also bring in support if you name the school after a popular persona. I hear 'Trump University' is not being used at this time. You might have to pay licensing for that.

Going down the road of renaming the schools after respected leaders, could you imagine the rivalries that these could lead to? Would you pay to go to the game between Bush University and Clinton University?

Or you could take a page from the MAC Conference and go with IU University.

Illinois Middle University would be kind of cool and Beatelesque. IMU as you are me and UofI and SIU together.

For WMU, I like the University of West Michigan or University of Western Michigan. A lot of the bigger-named directional schools do that, like University of Central Florida, University of South Florida, and University of Southern California.

But yes, there was indeed truth to University of Akron considering changing their name to Ohio Tech.

They're considered the flagship of the SUNY system, right? If yes, they should change their name to reflect that, differentiate themselves from other SUNY schools like Albany.

I've always thought Northern should be branded as just "NIU". Kind of like USC, UCLA, UAB, UCF. Rolls better than saying Northern Illinois.
