Random thoughts that made for a restless night:
1. Was Cumberland's scoring record yesterday an aberration or has he turned the page to become the emergent scoring leader?
2. Is Nevada's six man rotation gassed after that comeback and OT against a physical Texas team?
3. Is Clark physically okay after getting banged up yesterday?
4. Without looking at the box score, I'm thinking Williams, Moore and Broome were scoreless yesterday. Could UC advance if that continues?
I agree with those who suggest this feels like '92 with the #1 team in the country eliminated from our region last night. As much as I'd like to think about that, as a fan I hope the coaches and players have their eyes only on the prize before them tomorrow: a trip to the Sweet Sixteen and a week for contemplating some new "what if" questions.
Was there in Nashville for the afternoon session. Drove down and back...
1) Evidently GSU trash talked Jarron and he took it personally and decided to "Show them". And he did. If Simonds is an NBA player then Jarron looked every inch the NBA player too. He was great and UC really needed him. On the Court he had the look of "I'm not letting my team lose today."
2) The Wolfpack only play 6 and were up and down the Court against Texas. They also had to fight hard to come back and then had to play OT. Unless their conditioning is stellar or they are Supermen I would expect hands on their hips at around 10 left in the second half tomorrow. Mick should play fast and sub literally gas the Wolfpack run Nevada out of the gym.
3) Nothing in the postgame indicated Gary isn't good to go tomorrow. Now whether Mick would show his cards if Gary wasn't???
4) This team doesn't need everyone to contribute just enough of them. In some ways not knowing who is going to score is frustrating as a fan but has to be even more frustrating for the opponent's coach...who do you plan to shut down on UC? Any of them CAN score especially if there is a mismatch.
Won't compare this year to 92 (don't want to jinx them)
However if UK were to go down today...dare I wish it?????
if that happens maybe we have some help and magic this year...
In 92 things just fell right for UC.
