I wish Coach McGrath congratulations and the best of luck moving foward
Guess this is just a board meeting to approve contract? C.B could still be in AZ with business to take care of.
It's not out of the realm of possibilities that we could announce he will take over pending completion of Carolina's time at the F4. Why do I feel like I remember we had a similar meeting when Keatts was still in the F4 with Louisville and then made the official announcement after their championship?

Yeh, I didn't think any coaching announcements could be made as long as UNC is still playing.

Actually, Keatts offcially took the job while Louisville was still alive in the Final Four.
OFFICIAL: Kevin Keatts agrees to take coaching job at UNCW
So it definitely could all be wrapped up and official on Monday.

Is that an actual rule or a gentlemen's rule?
Regardless, it wouldn't be cool if we violated it either way. I'd rather us handle it with class and have a good relationship with UNC that could provide us the possibility of games/cash, etc in the future.

Perhaps an announcement, but an actual meeting/presser would have to happen after Monday(if UNC doesn't get quacked by the ducks)

I know there's some on here opposed to the "Carolina" system here at UNCW. I was just over on the WM board, and I thought of something. Shaver has been successful there (considering the poor funding he's given there).
He's completely turned that program into a contender, and has made our matchups with them some of the BEST to watch during conference play.
Just keep that in mind when you're assuming how successful a coach may/may not be based on their playing/job history/association.

Unfortunately, I thought the opposite. A few good years at UNCW and he then has the missing resume piece to succeed Williams when he steps down.

Talk of replacing Roy Williams is pointless. Most people consider it the best job in the country. There will be plenty of competition when the time comes. If he's still here when Roy retires, we'll have had him for 5 years minimum. I'll take it.

Agree. Not sure how relevant his experience at UNC is with the position here. The Heels essentially select recruits, while here you work your fanny off just to get them interested. At $220 thou he was certainly not Roy's top guy. I find most coaching searches similar, we often don't get the guy most people wanted, then rationalization sets in, he is the one we needed all along etc. Of course, I will support him, not that it matters but he was not my first choice.

It's not all about the risks. They're there, sure. There's risks with any new hire.
It's about the potential reward. We can debate in here until our fingers are tired on what we each think those risks are for EVERY candidate. That's why we have an AD, and pay him good money though. It's our job to trust the AD (who hasn't let us down yet), support the incoming coach, and carry on as Seahawk faithful the way we always do. Through the ups and downs. Through the droughts, championships, and back to back championships. We are UNCW. Let's roll!!!!!

I understand that you are enthusiastic, but let's not get carried away....
I'm not sure I'm as confident as 82, but Roy is loyal to his guys. He gave Miller a home and away, although I'm not sure anyone considers playing UNCG an away game for UNC. But, he also gave UAB a home and away series when Hasse accepted the job, and has already scheduled a game with Stanford next year. I don't recall if the Monmouth series includes a home game for King Rice. Also, Carolina helped open UNCA's new arena because of Roy's love for his boyhood home. It's the same principle as Roy scheduling a road game against Northern Iowa so that Marcus Paige could play in front of his friends and family. Roy takes care of his guys and a Carolina match-up in Trask would be very cool.

Its a total myth that the top programs select recruits, they compete against each other for the top players and it is cut throat at best. At the same time they are looking for players like Maye that might want to play there but seem to be a little iffy . The truth is that nobody here knows enough about this guy to prejudge the man.

I did not prejudge anyone, neither did I say he would not be successful, simply gave an opinion as many favorable to the selection did.

I think Mullet was just generally speaking and not directing that at anyone in particular.

Carolina's current team is comprised of recruiting classes that finished no higher than third and as low as 10th in the ACC. Carolina isn't getting the 5* OAD players that Duke, UK and Arizona are right now. I think that it bodes well for UNCW that McGrath was the lead recruiter for guys like Paige, Brice Johnson, Berry and Meeks. They're talented for sure, and still top 50 players, but it also shows that he was looking for something very specific on the recruiting trail. Guys that would fit Carolina's style, and that should translate to whatever style he adopts as a HC.

Exactly. And that's been a major knock on Williams and his staff during his tenure at UNC. That he hasn't gone after OAD athletes with the vigor that Kentucky/Duke and others have to generate quick success. They rely on less heralded players and develop them. On top of that, they have continually exceeded their expectations as players. I agree with Bricks. That's a great thing for us. It's similar to the recruiting mentality that Keatts used here and it's what HAS to work.

One and dones are avoiding UNC for fear they will start school and the NCAA will impose sanctions that will prohibit them from playing in the NCAA Tournament their only year in college.
If/when UNC-CH gets past this mess, they will sign some one and dones.
