We don't fit. UTEP is probably target #1, with Wichita St possibly sliding in if they raise their self-assessed $40m to start their D-I football program.

"Go West young man" doesnt appeal to me in the least. Let them poach some of the Texas teams and leave the rest of us alone.

The point is still valid. UAB needs to be proactive and our administration is happy with doing nothing. The MWC and AAC will be that next tier.

This is a fight for survival. Can't afford to stick our heads in the sand and act as if everything is ok.

Fit or no fit, geographically challenged or not, UAB cannot make any conference move unless it is first invited. None of our BT "insiders" have indicated that UAB has even been approached by any other conference with even a "feeler" for a future move.

When planting a new tree, for the first couple of years it must be carefully tended and kept watered and fertilized until it becomes "established". UAB football is in such a situation since although it has been around since 1990, it has no existing facilities to rely upon. We are essentially a "new tree", and other conferences are watching to see if UABs new program is going to become "established" like a new tree. When UAB can show a steady annual funding in the $30 million to $40 million range (and success on the field), it will have a chance to move to a better conference.

First things first -- become a valued member of C-USA able to compete there and build upon that resume.

Once a team is on any major passenger airplane, the distance is only a matter of time and fuel. What is the air distance from the center of MWC to Hawai'i compared to that point to B'ham?

The reasons for remaining in C-USA are not about air distances. We need to first "outgrow the pants we have" before tying to get any others.

Point is not the MWC per say. That said the AAC and MWC will end up in that next tier. We need to be promoting ourselves and selling what we have. We being more to the table than almost everyone that wants to go to the AAC.

The MWC and AAC will end up in an alliance and be playing each other OOC and maybe even champs playing for a spot in the playoffs.

I would but get all hung up in the MWC not fitting. We won't be invited. Id be hung up on promoting Moving up to the AAC or maybe we hit the lottery. USF did nothing on the field and court and got their golden ticket.

It is not gonna happen, we know that. UAB has been so far left behind that this athletic program will be in survival mode trying to stay afloat financially. It is what it is. UAB should pursue it regardless if it isn't realistic.

Travel costs alone would make joining the MWC the single dumbest idea I've read on this board.

I'm all for pursuing AAC membership. Heck, I'm all for pursuing ACC membership. MWC membership would minimize fan experience and travel would eat any initial financial gains from membership.
