I couldn't care less about the Olympics.
My goodness! That turned out to be really good.
Definitely a side of college football you don't usually get to see
I've seen this before in life actually. I've had several members of my family play college football including 4 playing now.
The one that hit close to home for me was Ollie. He turned down SEMO saying "I think I'm better than that". At the end of the day he just couldn't make himself go anywhere alone.

I think the QB made the best decision, go to school at Miss. State.
He ended up there with his fellow defensive lineman Marcel Andry. You can tell that he struggled to be by himself. I bet that if he had been offered by Michigan, Texas, or many SEC schools he would've flaked out of a commitment.
I think the show was put together to make it seem like the team was primarily composed of academic risks. I'm sure a lot of them had grades but didn't have the measurables for a DI career right out of high school.

So far only a couple of deaths in Rio the first weekend, both mugging related. A mugger was shot to death while accosting people who were leaving the opening ceremonies. And then a lady was shot to death by some muggers elsewhere in the city.
All in all, that's bad, but probably not much worse than any large American city (and certainly better than many).
I've watched bits n' pieces of the Olympics. In the little I've watched, the men's swimmer (China) and women's swimmer (Russia) who got gold medals were recently involved in doping scandals. Both cocky too.
The IOC banned the entire Russian track team and about 100 other Russian athletes from competing. There was a Greek athlete who got sent home from Rio too for doping. But I'm sure they can go further.
They banned the ENTIRE Russian Paralympic team from competing in the Paralympic Games. I find it hard to believe every single Russian paralympic athlete is cheating. If you were missing an arm or leg, it seems to me that the last thing you'd be worried about is taking drugs that could be adversely affecting medication you might need to be taking to ward off infections in your body, or medicine you need to take to stay healthy in general.

Ah, cool. Sounds like they do lay the hammer when need be.

I usually see some of it but I've gone so far into the whole never turn the tv on thing that I am not even missing it.
Yeah, it's alright for a few minutes here and there when I'm winding down in the late evening. I don't follow it too closely.
I get into the World Cup far more.

Also didn't show against New Zealand in the quarters
They showed, but didn't support their runs. They tried a lot of lateral stuff but didn't take up any defenders by just going in and taking a tackle. They didn't set themselves up for any type of numbers advantage on the edge.
What is going on with Brazil's soccer team? No goals against South Africa and then no goals against Iraq? Weird field as well. No USA, no England, no Netherlands, no Wales, no Chile, Messi not playing for Argentina, and Ronaldo not playing for Portugal. Germany looks awful. Was hoping for a better tournament. Mexico might finally win something.

IIRC the Olympic competition is between under-23 teams, augmented by up to two more senior players per team. The objective is keep the World Cup as the primary international competition with the Olympics as number two. FIFA likes to protect those TV and sponsorship dollars.
