RE: Baseball Opening Weekend
Washington State at Texas State is a 4 games series. Fourth game is Monday, 2/22, at 5 PM.

I'd like us to win a game.

They have dropped us in the past after a series win. After several years they will add us back on the schedule.

Schedules circulate... If they dropped you because of the series lost they would never add you again. Both teams need openings for a schedule to happen. We have beaten LSU plenty and they never dropped us fur that. We stopped that series for a while after the dugouts cleared in a game which is understandable to let all the guys in on those two teams leave. I've really never seen a group of people think everyone is scared of them like Georgia southern. Not everything is a conspiracy.

No one is saying they're scared. What I am saying is that UGA has a track record of having no problem playing GS until it loses. After that, it goes away for awhile. Can't imagine GS will get another crack at UGA on the volleyball court after beating them this fall and no one has heard anything about continuing our football series which has been renewed every 3/4 years for two decades.

Also, kudos on your consistency. Apparently UGA needs us on the schedule since we're usually the third-best RPI opponent in the state... and yet nearly a decade of no games between the two schools that could both use the RPI bump is easily explained by 'cycling' that can't find a couple of open dates each spring.

Heh. Arkansas played 7 games against teams rpi 300 and up 2 years ago instead of rpi top 100 Astate and central Arkansas

We're throwing a junior Friday, a senior Saturday and a sophomore Sunday. Sunday guy hasn't pitched in nearly 2 years thanks to injury

If you are "scared" to lose to somebody you don't schedule them 9 times in 3 years...you are pretty much guaranteeing losses playing that many games.

This is the last of the 4 series set we signed with UGA, hence why you see 9 times in 3 years.

We won the first 3 series.

Somebody who is willing to sign 4 years of series isn't someone who is trying to avoid you. We can't get a series with lsu...only midweeks.

Maybe it's real or not but I think the series didn't start back until they changed coaches. There might be nothing to it but it seemed very suspicious as it played out. I can't remember the name of the UGA coach at the time the series stopped but I seem to remember he had an attitude they were too good to play Southern. If true, it's probably more of a particular coach than a UGA athletic dept issue.

Georgia Southern baseball has needed new blood in the coaching ranks for a good 5-7 years.

The Friday and Sunday games between Georgia Southern and UGA will be on the SEC Network.

Good exposure if we can take a few of those games.

RE: Baseball Opening Weekend
the last couple of years we cant complain about our recruiting, we have landed alot of kids with offers from bigger schools, Jones and his staff has done a great job recruiting. On the other hand, the sfaffs game day management, especially the pitching staff in the late innings has been horrible, Last year we lost atleast 10 games tied or leading going into the 7th inning.

RE: Baseball Opening Weekend
looking forward to baseball season starting up. Now that I live in Augusta I'll actually be able to make it down for some games. Only games I was able to attend last year was the double header we had for my rehearsal dinner. Nothing like a nice sunday afternoon baseball game with the wife and kid.

The big question is late-game management. Jones left guys in way too long and then replaced them with 2-3 runners on, putting the bullpen in a bad spot that usually they couldn't get out of. Got a new pitching coach so he might be more forceful in making timely changes.

I think we are at something like 30 losses in the last two seasons in games where we had the lead in the 6th inning or later. Late game management is a big concern for me.

It's going to be a long season for 'skins and his hatred of the coaching staff. Can't wait for three months of clammoring for gorilla ball and harping on aggressive base running despite the fact that GS might have all of 3-4 guys who can consistently get the ball out of the infield.

Gorilla ball is almost impossible to play now with all the bat changes. Chances are the team that tries that approach ends up having a terrible year.

For those interested, all the games at the Shriner's College Classic at Minute Maid Park next weekend will be shown on the MLB Network for the first time. Tournament includes Houston, Texas Tech, TCU, Arkansas, Rice, and the Cajuns.
