And just like the G5 schools are in an arms race with other G5 schools, P5 schools are doing the same thing, on a grander scale. They all can't afford to pay millions for a money game, they are being forced to agree to home/home series.

Which should add value to the SBC TV media contract.

With the pressure for P5 teams to end games with FCS schools, the price of a G5 one game buy will only skyrocket. I'd except more and more home games against the poorer performing P5 schools, like Miami or Wake Forest in App's case. We should all get used to seeing the likes of Indiana, Illinois, Colorado, Vanderbilt, Syracuse, or Iowa State come to town more often.

Congrats App. I would love to see TXST land them.

The best part of this whole deal is that the game is next year. No waiting 5-10 years for it to happen and have a chance of them backing out.

College Football Scheduling is a lot like No Limit Poker. In order to win, you have to take calculated gambles. Full credit to App for holding out on Miami until they agreed to give the home game. That is how it works for those of us without the joy of living in a fertile recruiting area.

Tell them to call Coastal Carolina...I hear they could use some extra games...

We most certainly could, thanks to everyone in the Big South (except for Liberty thanks to an ESPN contract) refusing to play us next year.

Luck or not it is a great series and you have 3 years of great scheduled games. GS fans are just trying to find THE reason we can't even get decent g5 games, no offense MAC. Also the loss has made us a little bitter too.

For the season ticket holders, they are jealous of this game (or any P5 team). I'm not a season ticket holder and haven't been able to make it to Paulson Stadium in a long time.

I'd personally prefer locations closer to me since I have a young child. Love to play Army, Penn State, Temple, Rutgers, UCONN.

I don't want any part of an away game with a team called the Mountaineers. We are 0-2 vs them this season. I'm still better about WVU loss03-banghead

I like the UMASS game because it brings back some good championship game moments from the 2 squads.

Heck I'd like another crack at North Dakota on a neutral site or in Statesboro.

U have to admit, North Dakota would bring the same size crowd as most P5 schools. Give the fans what they want!

I know how that is, living far from your team. I didn't have kids yet, but from 2006-2011, I lived in Indiana, and it was not feasible to go south just for a game. My wife and I hardly even saw any of our old friends over those five years. Just pretty much visits with my family and my wife's family.

Unfortunately, the one game within reasonable (about 3 hours) driving distance was the Michigan game... and I didn't go.

People KNEW who App State was AFTER that game. Tough game to miss!

Hopefully I don't regret missing this UGA vs Southern game in a few weeks. UGA is vulnerable with shaky QB play!

So TK calls a school, team says no = bad AD, Gotcha.

Good timing for App. We are not playing Sav St the same weekend as their scheduled NC Central game. It could have come down to something that simple.

Also as of now beating WKU or Bowling Green would be a better win according to most rankings...Great name no doubt but this is not the U of old.

The conference needs the win and pub, a case of the name overriding reality though.

A few observations from the thread...

"App's scheduling is putting us to shame." Rimshot

Yes it is and Yes it is.

TheEagleWay:
"He is making the phone calls, but few want to play us." 04-bs

You keep on drinking that Kool Aid. We heard the same thing from our two previous ADs. How is it that Doug Gillin is able to get these types of teams to the remote outpost of Boone (according to Ga Southern fans), but nobody is willing to visit the metropolis that is Statesboro?

New Jersey GATA:
"I believe our HOME record is 185-33. Sometimes success makes opposing AD look the other way towards visiting our program!" 03-lmfao

Yea, The U is shaking in their boots at the mere thought of playing you guys.

No comment necessary.

New Jersey GATA:
"Like I said before ........ let these programs not visit Paulson Stadium and watch us go undefeated during the season. Going undefeated gets you in the top 25 and creates more hype for your program!" 03-rotfl

App was undefeated (regular season since that is what you're talking about) in 1995. In 2007 we lost 2 games. Which one did we get more hype from?

EigenEagle:
"As for App State….I would be lying if I said I wouldn't wet my pants if this happened to us," 03-woohoo

Of course you would.

"but you guys realize that you're going to peak next year with everyone you have coming back and you will basically have no shot at finishing the season ranked or get the Access Bowl, right?" 05-nono

Did it even dawn on you IF we beat The U and win the rest of our games we will BE RANKED and IN the Access Bowl?

StanMolsonMan:
"Great get App. Keep that momentum you have going. It is good for the conference." 04-cheers

Finally! Some positive vibes!!

Per a source, #AppState in talks with Miami for a H/H, starting at KBS next season. No contract yet, but should be done soon.

I expect tickets for this game to be raised at least to $50. The demand will be there to fill every seat and more for that match-up. Biggest event on the mountain since the last race at Wilkesboro.

Congrats I would love to get a straight up home and home with a name team and am glad the world will see the sun still rises if a name team visits a G5, but unusual circumstances got you that game. It is not like your AD did a lot of work in any. I would be willing to bet Miami went through schedules and contacted you. As the Miami AD stated you were one of the very few that could make it work. So if NC Central was a week earlier you would not have got the game. Lets no go overboard with the App made it happen or the U is stoked about going to Boone. A little jelly yes but I would be impressed if this was a game scheduled two or more years down the road when the U was not scrambling for a game.

Quote:Unlike most mid-majors, Southern isn't just seeking paychecks. It's trying to step in the realm of Boise State by scheduling as aggressively as possible. Traveling to Alabama or West Virginia is a fiscal matter, and Kleinlein has booked home-and-homes vs. Western Michigan and UMass. But finding the power school that will risk the PR hit of a Sun Belt road loss is yeoman's work.

"I've heard every excuse possible at this point," Kleinlein said. "I just got off the phone with a friend at a SEC program, a guy I used to work with. He told me, 'No way,' before I could finish talking.

They will make a lot of money for this game, like said, could see 50 dollar tickets, and atleast 32 thousand, they will put temporary seating in every corner of the stadium

When we hosted Texas Tech, single game tickets were $70. Helped boost season ticket sales since it became a deal.
