2:00 mark is Anderson Fumble. Agree was not showboating, but he was at the 5yard line, so mini-"jumbotron" mistake seems accurate. Wasnt one of those drop at the 2 inch line...although he does make it a little too close, too often.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53MB5fWYntA

On a side note, the segment before Anderson in the video is the Sumo 40 yard dash, which is pretty funny.

At the 20, though, he did start pointing to the fans or the "jumbotron" or something.

Was over the field during UNH game as well. City police were searching for the operator. Pontoon plane was in the area too. Hope the drone operator saw the plane. Could have been a problem if not.

I assumed it was WM AD getting game footage, or WM students having some fun with a toy. Saw the same drone at the UNH game.

Maybe it was JMU getting in some early scouting of the Tribe.

I figured it was a student drone so that they could watch the game but wouldn't have to leave the library and interact with people.

Great podcast by a couple Hampton guys:

https://soundcloud.com/thehupirateship/w...week-eight

Their segment recapping the game gives some great praise to our coaches, strength/conditioning, and general status of our program. Worth a listen if you have a few minutes.

I hear the FAA is seeking to force drone operators to get a license but it's difficult to know who's flying them. Maybe force manufacturers to etch an ID somewhere?

I think this was a great opportunity for W&M's finest to practice their marksmanship.

Maybe the drone can be positioned where it provides a target for Windmueller to aim his punts increasing hang time...

Having drones over the field of play at a responsible height should yield some super film footage, which could also be reviewed by the coaching staff on a real-time basis.

Looked like a DJI Phantom for which there are a lot of them out there. A W&M student posted a YouTube video last month flying one on campus, but not over anyone. FAA is regulating them for commercial use, but the only real limits at the moment for private use are maintaining specified distance outside airfields, under 450 ft altitude, within line of sight, and no authority to fly over people (especially large groups) or property without full permission. Consequently, they could land in some hot water for flying over the stadium the last few games. Doubt any of us will see that footage for at least a year when proposed regulations change and catch up with where the industry is ultimately heading, unless the owner is asking for trouble.

Better idea would be to have gimbal-mounted GoPro's positioned on a couple of pipe towers above the stands which can readily be controlled by processors, won't have the current limited 25 min drone battery life, nor the liabilities associated with flying over people.....Ability for first person real time view and zoom....And, would be very inexpensive to do. ...Could, also, easily be connected into the video scoreboard for real-time views and instant replay, with great resolution.

Saw the drone at both games, not back in the second half at HC, thought the College had hired one out to get great campus shots to document HC.....

Hypotheticaly speaking, of course, but do you own a DJI Phantom and were you in or around Zable at any point Saturday?

I saw the drone. My first thought was, "is that legal?" My second thought was, "should I run for cover?"

I wouldn't "run for cover" if the drone was under the control of a certified operator. Apparently, the one you saw was under the control of an approved operator.

BTW there are various levels of drones and a 25 minute battery life is not the norm unless you shop at Toys R Us. Possibly, there would not be enough battery life for 3.5 hours of flight time, but batteries could be swapped out at halftime. In addition, a waypoint grid navigation system could be set up with an assistant coach at the controls of the drone. Trust me, I have some experience with navigation. At 200 feet, the drone would not be in the line of sight of spectators and still able to capture action video.

I have no way of knowing who is operating a drone when I'm sitting in the stands.

Yes, I was at Zable Saturday, and no, I do not own a Phantom, but know them and the industry well. Current flight time to get back home safely is that short and is the norm for a quadcopter. Current battery life is longer in fixed wing drones.

Course I never did kiss and tell 03-shhhh

Not quite, this is an upper level military drone designed to perform missions of mass destruction.
