There is a HUGE difference in the verbal abuse one is subjected to in each instance. You only THINK you're getting verbally abused by your coach. Try a T.I. or a D.I.
Yeah, nearly 30 years later and my first meeting with my drill sergeant at basic at Fort Sill still stands out in my mind. I'd bent the brim of my BDU hat to make it more to my liking, and he was all over my ass as soon as I stepped off the cattle car. "YOU MUST THINK YOU'RE BILLY BADASS!!!" It went on and on, and to this day, I'm convinced that man hated my stinking guts.
Yeah, good times... lol. My time in boot camp was around the same time as yours. I remember the TI's calling us "queers", a-holes, spitting in our faces as they yelled at us, hitting us hard with the brims of their smokey bear hats (where they would leave a red line on your foreheads) and saying "take a swing, *****.. make my day.. come on fk'er! COME ON FK-HOLE, I DARE YOU!!!!".
Now that, folks... is what "verbal abuse" looks like.
Ha ha, yes ... good times.
