RE: Stony Brook
As previously noted the skill players get all of the accolades. The play of the line on both sides of the ball has been fun to watch. Claytor, Ahola, Gryder's play has been very explosive the last 6 quarters. Dulaney did a great job last night and Rhodes had his best game of the year. Smith has stepped up and filling in for Swinton really well. Jared and DeAndre at safety is working well.

The Oline is also explosive with run blocking. MAS and Kendall are benifiting from there performance. This group has 7 guys to rotate, Durant down, Templeton steps in. Depth as well as talent in the oline.

I agree that the WRs are performing better than some may have thought they would. We knew Dedmon was going to shine and he is. Reeves and Hart were going to be solid, they are, but Kuzjak and Armstrong have stepped up huge, not only adding depth, they are making plays.

The key to any season is health. These guys stay on the field, the coaches trust them to make plays and the play calling continues to keep defenses on their heals and we can have a lot of fun cheering on the Tribe this year.

I'm confused as to why JL chose to burn Kleinrichert's redshirt. It seems we had enough depth along the DL without doing that.

I want to give a shout out to Stephen Lubnow. He went from getting no time to being a special teams warrior to starting yesterday and making an impact with a couple plays in the backfield. Shows how hard work pays off no matter how small your high school is.

A bit off topic, but Sandy (or anyone else with knowledge), do you know what the status is with Christian Garner? I haven't heard anything specific, but is it an injury problem with him? Just curious.

Christian is just down the depth chart a ways. Same with other WRs who may have promise like David Carlisle, Matt Sniezek, and Isaiah Kinder.

Absolutely, #33 played his heart out, made some great plays. Kids are stepping up every week. Check out the recap video and you will see him in a number of plays!

An overlooked aspect of this developing offense, Steve Cluley running the ball, and the staff willingness to include that option:
Lafayette - 8 carries. -2 yds
UVA - 6 carries, -14 yds
SB - 11 carries, 32 yds

Those numbers include sack yardage. Without sack yards:

Lafayette: 6 carries, 15 yards
UVA: 6 carries, 11 yards
SB: 9 carries, 48 yards

He ran a decent amount last year- 253 rushing yards before you subtract sack yards. Personally I don't like it when they run him since that exposes him to more hits.

You can see by the QBs being recruited to play under Rogers that he likes his qb to run when it is available. I agree though, the hits are worrisome. A Cluley separated shoulder or concussion could derail what is shaping into a very good season.

Especially since I don't think any of the QBs behind him have thrown a pass yet in their careers. I don't mind Cluley scrambling so much as I mind the designed runs for him. Those are the ones that have me holding my breath.

Careful holding your breath or you may expire. QBs who are a threat to throw, and run give an offense an edge, and a much larger play book. Sure there's a risk, but football is a risky sport. Being smart, and strong are the keys to a dual threat QB avoiding injury. We've had as many QBs injured while being sacked as we have while running. At 227 lbs. Cluley has developed his body to compete as a dual threat.

If you're a little blue-faced, imagine JMU fans. Cluley has run the ball 18 times in three games. Lee has run it 52 times in their four games.

RE: Stony Brook
In their upset win against SMU, JMU QB, Vad Lee, personally rushed for 276 yards, in addition to passing for 289 yards. Without his play, JMU loses by three or four TDs.

I admitt to a "cringe" whenever ANY W&M QB takes off on a run, for whatever reason. But the fact is; most college teams that are successful these days have QBs who can run the ball as well as pass the ball. An occasional QB Option run loosens up the defense and makes other offensive plays more effective - which may actually reduce the number of "hits" a QB sustains thru out the course of a game and reduces the overall risk of injury to the QB.

While a very good win, lets put "upset" in quotes for JMU. SMU is 1-3 with a 116 Sagarin (I know it's early so means less but still not good. Their other losses are to TCU and Baylor but only win is against North Texas who is 0-3). JMU is 98 Sagarin and we are 99.

Lee also has 10 interceptions on the year already, including 5 against Albany and 3 against SMU. Obviously the JMU offense is more dangerous than SBU, but it sounds like you can sell out on the run a bit since his passing seems to be a bit suspect.

RE: Stony Brook
Apparently, we'll be able to sell out on the run this week against Delaware.

Jacksonville - 10 of 20 for 134 yards and 1 TD (Diante Cherry their WR was 1 for 1 for 22 yards and a TD)
Lafayette - 4 of 15 for 58 yards
Nova - 13 of 30 for 94 yards and 1 INT
UNC - 4 of 10 for 24 yards and 1 INT

Basically, they are not throwing the ball at all and in 4 games, their QBs have yet to record a passing TD.

With that, there are definitely two areas of improvement for the offense coming out of that game. The first is obviously the penalties; the second is that Cluley seemed out of sync on some of the longer passes. Both of these could be due to the weather and people just a bit out of sync happens from time to time. What was great though was to see on many occasions after a penalty we would still manage to pick up the first down anyway.

Looking forward to a chance to demonstrate what this team can do for two games on the road.

W&M had 6 penalties, all false starts. It's unusual for the home team to rack up that many false starts.

I know that Andrew Jones got dinged up during the game and seemed to be on the sidelines for portions of the game. I wonder if having a backup at center could have caused some disruptions that led to some of the false starts.
