Conference championship with a big * next to it
Still flying that 2005 banner? 3-way tie with stAte and ULL, 5-6 overall record, and a loss to a bad FCS team.
Talk about an *.

RE: Ga. Southern has begun the process of appealing to be bowl eligible this year
I've done a little bit of looking into bowl possibilities for us and it seems more likely than you would think (although it is still a long shot). In both 2012 and 2013 there were 35 bowls which meant 70 schools went to bowls. In 2012 there were only 73 teams that were eligible and that included GA Tech which got a waiver because losing their conference championship game resulted in a losing record. In 2013 there were 79 teams eligible for 70 spots (sadly this meant a lot of those 6-6 Sun Belt teams from last year didn't get in). This year they added three bowls which brings the total number of schools to 76 which is right in the range we've had for the last few years. Obviously there are other factors going against us such as there being more FBS teams and schools like Miami, Ohio State and Penn State coming off of bowl bans but all I'm saying is that it's more realistic than most would think. On our end, all we have to do is get to six wins (which can be done against GASt) and be higher ranked than Old Dominion and App State (assuming they hit six wins also). Other than that we just have to hope for teams to lose.

Nope, this has nothing to do with ULM. Nice try at a deflection though.

I said that's what we are playing for. The conference made us eligible and made the schedule. Take it up with Benson. We're only halfway through conference play, so I'm not even worried about it right now. A lot can happen between now and then.

Cool, still a conference championship that asterisk will shrink as time moves forward. And considering we were picked to finish 8th, we'll take it. If we are so fortunate to finish that way, bowl or no bowl, we made the most of the schedule that was given to us.

I think warhawk is a little jealous that his team isn't in talks about winning the conference. I mean, 1 conference championship in 13 years in the conference? That must be rough.

Nah, it's just fun to watch you guys get all riled up. A real easy bunch to mess with.

I don't think so I'm pretty sure we will still get full credit for winning the conference if we are able to pull it off, even if it is shared, no * at all.
But thanks for your concern.
Everybody will know that you didn't have to play ULL or Arkansas State.
Long ways to go but the same could be said in reverse for us when it is all said and done.

RE: Ga. Southern has begun the process of appealing to be bowl eligible this year
Good article on Georgia Southern Bowl chances. Looks like TK understands the process.
Quote:The Eagles (5-2, 4-0 Sun Belt), however, could find that the ineligibility is only temporary. They could find themselves with an invitation if there aren’t enough “deserving teams” under NCAA guidelines.
“There’s always a possibility in terms of NCAA rules,” GSU athletic director Tom Kleinlein said. “Now, the possibility’s a slim one, but there’s always a possibility.”
The NCAA Postseason Bowl Handbook defines a deserving team as “one that has won a number of games against (FBS) opponents that is equal to or greater than the number of its overall losses.”
Simply put, if you’re 6-6 or better — and there is a provision for one win against an FCS program as long as that FCS program issued at least 90 percent of allowable scholarships over a rolling, two-year period — you’re eligible.
But, with 38 Bowl games in 2014, not including the College Football Playoff Championship game, there will be 76 slots to fill.
In 2013, there were more than enough eligible teams to fill the 70 available slots to the 35 Bowls, so many in fact that nine eligible teams didn’t go to a Bowl, including current Sun Belt members UL Monroe, South Alabama and Troy, which all finished the season 6-6.
But with six new spots and a long way to go in the season, it’s possible there won’t be enough 6-6 or better teams to fill the 76 slots.
If that happens, the NCAA has “a pecking order there before they get to us,” Kleinlein said.
The first exception would be for a 6-6 team with an FCS win against a program offering less than 90 percent of allowable scholarships. The next place the NCAA would look would be a 6-6 team with wins over two FCS programs. If the slots still aren’t filled, the NCAA would allow a team with 13 regular season games that finished 6-7.
After all that, if there are still available slots the Eagles would come into play, as long as they meet the definition of a “deserving team.” There are four teams in GSU’s situation — the Eagles and Appalachian State (Sun Belt), and Old Dominion and Charlotte (Conference USA). If all four fit the definition of “deserving teams,” and there are one or more slots available, it will be a subjective decision.
“At that point,” Kleinlein said, “it’s really up to the Bowl game and who they want to take.”
Georgia Southern is currently one win away from fitting the “deserving team” definition. The Eagles played and beat FCS Savannah State, which met the 90-percent scholarship requirement this season, Kleinlein confirmed.
So if Georgia Southern wins one of its next five games, it’ll have to sit back and wait to see what happens.
