after our last administration made us lose a home playoff game because we did not submit paperwork on time, you can rest assured these guys will be doing anything pre-emptive they need to do to make sure we are ready just in case things fall into line.

Don't ask about our old AD filling out paperwork before the playoffs because it was a complete cluster, I'm glad we are on top of it now!

RE: Ga. Southern has begun the process of appealing to be bowl eligible this year
We all know this is probably a long shot but as of today (10/14) here are the teams that hopefully will get their 7th loss before long:

Teams with 7 losses right now:
No teams have 7 losses right now

Teams with 6 losses right now:
Idaho (they are ineligible-- APR anyway)
Miami (Ohio)
Massachusetts
Kent State

Teams with 5 losses right now:
Tulsa
SMU
Connecticut
UNLV
Ball St.
Vanderbilt
Washington St.
Troy
New Mexico St.
Georgia St.
Appalachian St.

That is 15 teams there. With 39 bowls and 78 bowl teams, we need around 50 teams to have 7 or more losses to have a chance. I say it is a longshot but who knows.

I'd rather us have the paperwork filed and ready, and not need it, tan the unlikely happen, and not have filed it.

Has anybody got an actual source for this information, other than 'heard it at a tailgate?'
Not doubting it, would just like to verify. Thanks.

That's nice, but let's be realistic...not happening. Too many factors, most of them not in our control.

(Was this meant for the other thread?)

If GS ends the season alone at the top of the Belt, they should definitely get a chance to play in a bowl. No reason to have our conference champ sitting at home.

Yes it was....dang it...had several tabs open

RE: Ga. Southern has begun the process of appealing to be bowl eligible this year
I think rather than waiver, GaSo is probably seeking a rules interpretation.

UNT didn't get a waiver, they fell under an exception.
18.7.2.1.2 Exception—Conference Champion. [FBS] If a conference champion is scheduled contractually to participate in a bowl game, the institution that is the conference champion shall be eligible to participate regardless of its won-lost record.

This would require an interpretation because it applies to FBS members, which Georgia Southern ain't. The rule also only deals with the issue of the champion not having a sufficent number of victories and does not address the issue of being FBS.

You can't win the argument just by pointing to the rule because the rule doesn't apply to this circumstance.

Georgia Southern may be attempting to argue that it is entitled to a waiver under that provision but that would be a long-shot argument.

Even though it is very unlikely, like I said, this is one of those "rather have it and not need it, than not have it and need it"

If we win the conference, maybe we get the waiver to play Ark St in the bowl game. Lol.

MAC and MWC might frown on that.

I'm guessing our dream of facing Boise in the New Orleans Bowl isn't happening?

But at least we are putting it out there that we want to go to a bowl this year if we are bowl eligible (I think that will happen) and there is a shortage of bowl eligible teams.

So if you are a Ga. Southern fan we need to be pulling for more 5-7 or worse teams.

It's a stupid rule. If you have six wins and five or more are vs FBS then good on you! If you can do that in year one of FBS football why shouldnt you be allowed to go to a bowl?!

It's not a fair rule. But you cannot go back and give UTSA the bowl it missed last year so the rule should be applied consistently. Georgia Southern and its fans KNEW this rule when they chose to transition. Dear God, live with it.
