Within the span of a few hours we have learned that Wriston is a real, potential, maybe candidate, we have expressed joy, frustration and angst. We have expressed glee regarding his offense. We have expressed displeasure regarding his offense. Yada, Yada, Yada...

The man hasn't even been hired yet and we don't even know if he is really being considered beyond being contacted to gauge his interest.

The speculation is rampant and continues.

Wow!

I must add to this, when was the last time the EMU football talk/board has been so excited about the football team after the season was over? When we went 6-6 a couple of years ago? I am just enjoying this relaxing time after the emotional ride of this season team..

I will admit it's impessive what he's done, but he does coach in one of the worst leagues in D2, and he has no real threat of recruiting kids at the D2 level in Colorado.

I would not call this a "good" kind of excited. The football program is in total flux. I don't think anyone has any delusions of grandeur or any hope of winning more than 3 games next season. So not quite sure what your feeling. This is just a continuation of "the dark days" of EMU football.

Dear Friends,
From the Eagle Totem site: Coach Wristen was arrested and charged with domestic violence, just before his coming on board with UCLA. He plead guilty to the charges and was ordered to take classes to help remedy his problem. This was February,2006.

As long as he doesn't swear at the players, he'll be fine. No big deal, apparently.

My question is what can/will he do with the defense? This is where the huge hole is..

This is why I like the guy. Building a new program (or in EMU’s case a devastated program) and taking over an already successful program and keeping it running are two different things.

I was a high school teacher in Colorado back in the nineties, and I can tell you that Colorado is not a hotbed of football. However, the fact that Wristen can recruit from the caliber of recruits in that part of the country and produce one of the top teams in DII is an accomplishment.

Nah... We absolutely MUST have Les Miles or Nick Saban! They are known for turning programs around and keeping their teams at prosperous levels.

Rob, I must disagree! While both coaches would gladly come to EMU and while we have more than enough money to pay their respective salaries, the fact that Saban could not seal the deal vs Auburn is troublesome. It shows a serious lack of fundementals in covering missed FG's. We deserve better.

My point is that there is no rival school in Colorado he has to compete with for the best D2 prospects in Colorado, and he is in a week league and hasnt won over the outside competition.

Bob, Of course, you are correct. My bad. Okay, I wasn't that attached to those picks anyway. Moving on... Besides, what was I thinking? I really like Jimbo Fisher or Urban Meyer. I mean, heck, if we're looking for successful coaches why not pick one of these fellas? I can just see it now - The Eastern Michigan University Eagles are in the national Championship game for the first time in the school's history. We don't know who their opponent is but, then again, does it really matter? The outcome is a foregone conclusion.

How about Jimmy Johnson? I'll bet we could lure him away from that joke of a job he has at FOXSports. He's just wasting his time there anyway. He did some good things when he was at the U.

In all seriousness, now that we know about Wristen's history of domestic abuse, how is he any different from Haywood?

I see two ways in which he is different:
1) Unlike Haywood, he plead guilty.
2) Haywood has actually won big in the MAC.

Please carry on with your tomfoolery.

But Haywood has built NOTHING and at the first sniff of success he bailed. You would be foolish to trust that guy.

We should see if Tim Tebow wants to coach our Eagles. He is as pure as the driven snow. Plus, we'd get to see him drop to one knee, flex his arm and touch his forehead to his hand in prayer. That would be sweet!

C'mon Bob. What MAC coach hasn't bolted at the first opportunity? If he built us up and then bailed, I'd be happy as a clam.
