If that happens, I can't wait to hear the spin on hiring someone who pled guilty to domestic assault.
Agree...PR nightmare.

PR nightmare? I don't think anyone cares enough about EMU football or it to ever be a "PR nightmare". We aren't Michigan or Michigan State...I bet half of the state doesn't even know we fired our coach to begin with.

For the record I agree with you...
But why aren't we pursuing Haywood? Since we all agree that the domestic assault stuff doesn't really matter in terms of PR, why don't we get the best coach possible?

Character is what what you do when no one's looking. No one may be looking but you still want to have good character and ethics. I am only one person, but I would find it hypocritical...same thing with Haywood.

Though Wristen's thing was seven years and two schools ago? I talked to someone in the know out in Pueblo who said there was some talk about his arrest when Wristen was first hired, but nothing since.
The other names mentioned who have gotten into trouble are a little more fresh. And seeing what Wristen has done from nothing he would probably be the best choice factoring in everything of the few names mentioned. Though I'd argue turning EMU around would be harder than what he had to do at CSUP.

Wow!
I must add to this, when was the last time the EMU football talk/board has been so excited about the football team after the season was over? When we went 6-6 a couple of years ago? I am just enjoying this relaxing time after the emotional ride of this season team..
All which explains why I'm waiting for the job announcement, so far a lot of the names mentioned have failed to excite me, too many far out names, too many with personal baggage which isn't good the university who is already suffering reputation wise. At least the men and women basketball teams are playing very competitively. Would be curious about Bohl and his contract buy out.

Yep. this whole search in the Eagles' Nest has been...#$#@#$@#$%. Basically fantasies, dashed hopes, angst, etc...
One of the first names mentioned here was Bohl. Here is what FootballScoop.com has to say:
"Wyoming: Craig Bohl's agreement is five years with a base salary of $750,000 which he can bring up to $1.2 million through incentives."
Does that not indicate a lot of the problems we face trying to satisfy posters:
The ones (HC candidates) we want don't want us and the ones who want us we don't want.
The search continues (hopefully before Christmas), the cause endures...

Dear EagleSam,
I had to laugh at your comment about public relations nightmare. Very well put.
To the point of the coaches search, we only know of one person that has been interviewed, and the only reason we know that, is because of the people in Pueblo who released his name. We don't know if Haywood, Babers, or anyone else has been interviewed. So, we really will just have to wait and see who lands in Ypsilanti. By the way, if you look at Eastern's future schedules we play Wyoming in a couple of years. Home and home.

Yep.
And in the case of say Haywood is the PR nightmare that we interviewed someone who we really did NOT interview...
Yikes!
I will repeat one of my geek speak quotes from I believe Abraham Kaplan a philosopher of science:
"Nature abhors a vacuum".
Since we don't know much at all about the coach search all we do is make up and repeat speculation, etc. etc.
On a good day we get speculation from say a mainstream media source, for what that is worth... like the info on the CSU-P HC.
And as been posted here, a lot of that is candidates self-promoting themselves to the media.

Let the record show that Babers has been a HC for 2 whole seasons, so we have no idea if he knows how to build a program. He is essentially winning with the previous HC's players.

That is a fair assessment on Babers, Bob. We really don't know if he can build a program or not. The reason he is my #1 choice is strictly because of the system he runs and the success he's had with it (albeit in two years) at EIU. I think he'd bring some excitement to our program with the "Baylor" offense.

We have a lot of people who have expressed pr concerns about a couple of coaching prospects. To them I would like to ally your fears. The local media rarely does stories about EMU unless there is a negative spin. Otherwise, mostly no story. If we are lucky to enough to hire a good coach with a slightly shadowed past, don't dispair, the media will rag on it for one day (likely page 23 in the papers) and will disappear from most everyones thoughts in two days. So sleep well tonight and hope that we are able to pick up a good one.

Probably true, but don't you want a coach that YOU can be proud of like a Jim Harkema or a Ben Braun?

I'd love to get Wheatley on as an assistant or, perhaps, in a coordinator position though. I'd imagine he'd be pretty helpful in recruiting.

I hope we can keep Mike Hart as well. Even outside of recruiting, or RBs seem to be our most productive and consistent position in the last three seasons.

According to footballscoop.com, Wyoming has locked up Craig Bohl for their HC position so Barbra is still in the running for us.. This is good news for us..
