I still don't get the onside kick?
I know the usual saying "if you make it you're a genius. If you lose it, you're an idiot."
Well, he's an idiot. When you are trying to put a spark into a team and fan base you play sound solid football. It's easy for me to arm chair QB after the fact, but dang!

Truth. I mean the obvious is basketball, but what about soccer? Consistently ranked.

You forum dwellers are pitiful. With all due respect for both teams, they all played a heck of a ball game, right down to the last tick. I'd like to see some of you guys suit it up and get your heads knocked off like so many of them did, tonight.
The difference in winning and losing that game was probably......McGees call for an on sides kick. You can't blame the players on either team. They played their hearts out.

McGee at least admitted he made the wrong call there and was too aggressive.
The question is whether or not he will learn his lesson.
UAB looked like a better team than a year ago, and with all respect to JP, I think we lost a bit when we put JP in the game. Should have kept going with Brown who was on fire at the time. Brown in general looked a lot more mature tonight. No INTs and he wasn't really sacked either. I think McGee needs to look at the film and should realize that Brown seems to be the better QB at this time.
Now if Brown starts taking a bunch of sacks and throwing INTs, that would be the time to put in JP. But there was no reason really to play JP when he did because UAB could have likely extended our lead with Brown staying in.

The difference in the game was special teams. The inside kick (I know that was McGee's call), 2 missed field goals, the 'punt' late in the 4th, and the last offensive play attempting a field goal. Special teams lost that game!

I'm guessing he meant worst-played. As a big UAB men's soccer fan I really hope he did. Football is an embarrassment to a great university.

And what makes that sad is that it was supposed to be a strength of our team. To be fair though, the kicks Ty missed were pretty long, but he is capable of getting them.
Just lots of places you could look to point to. UAB just didn't play like they wanted to win. UAB still doesn't know how to go for the jugular. Far too content with a 7pt or 14pt lead.

The onsides kick did not result in the loss of a 14 point lead. 102 penalty yards did, however.

Couldn't agree more. Losing a 14 point lead in the 4th quarter, what a joke.

But JP is the best QB on the roster! I said it before the game I was upset that we were going to play both QBs, and this is a prime example of why I don't like QBs going in and out.

i wouldnt have called the kick, but i also have no problem with it...and losing the onsides kick only cost us 3 points. with a 14 point 4th quarter lead, and gaining a fumble recover in the 4th, we should be able to hold on, even if we give away 3 points.
if there was a coaching decision that cost us the most, i would say that it was taking AB out on the 3rd series (i know it was scripted). it just seemed like he was getting in a rhythm and we lost some steam...
who knows?
coulda, shoulda, woulda

Folks are mad, and rightfully so. But when you come to your senses, I think most will realize that the team is improved.
We screwed up, sure. Coaches, special teams, etc. But we also played most of the game without 2 of our best players (Humphrey and Backman).

The team needs to be able to beat someone like Troy without two specific players. What happens when they get hurt at LSU?
You guys must be using some of the new diagnostic equipment at the cancer center to measure improvement, because it is so small it is undetectable by the human eye. I cannot count how many times I've heard "well, we lost but we are improved!" At some point those improvements should show up in the score, right?

RE: Troy Game thread.
Well this is one forum dwellers that still says we threw away a 14 point lead and pardon me for being tired of losing opening games year after year and giving away games year after year. I don't think at one point did I attack the players, but you may not have been talking about me.
I don't think anyone attacked the players, but you got to admit 111 yards in penalties isn't a result of the coach. But, it is just the first game of a long season. We still have alot of football to play and win or lose.
See yall next week in LSU. I'll be the blazer fan still rooting for the BLAZERS with the thought that we can still win.
