Who are the ones who did it using the mascot as the entire inside of the state outline? That is what has started to become a trend since ECU did it in that manner. Honestly I can not even think of a school who has used a mascot on their field or court that had their state outline with their actual mascot inside of state outline. I can remember some schools with a state outline and their name or letters inside of it but not the mascot. I am sure there could have been some school do it but I can not think of one so please enlighten me. Also can you honestly say that the ODU mid court design is not a total rip-off of ECU's design?????

This logo has been around the Marshall community for awhile now. Long before ECU put a copy version on their field. Its not on the football field here even though I pushed for it when we got the new turf installed. So just becuase ECU chose to do it hardly makes it an "ECU thing". It is an awesome design though and ECU did the right thing in doing it.

Illinois had the chief illiniwek logo for years on their field and on their hoops court.

Ive had a similair sticker on my 2002 envoy for about as long as weve owned it.

Well that is an awesome design...I had never really seen that design before. Like I said in my previous post, I would imagine there were schools who had done it before.

If ECU was as so worried about other universities using a desing concept they claim to have developed they should have had it Trademarked. Otherwise, talk to the hand! 03-talktothehand

Surprise surprise East Carolina fans hijacking a thread because it's always all about them. The University of Texas kinda does the same thing:

Texas A&M does the same:

By the way ODU fans, I like your new court logo. Looks great

What's the point of bringing this back up after it's already been settled (5 days ago) between me and ecumbh1999?

I reply to posts as I read them and my point was stated in my reply and subsequent replies thereafter. I read threads from the beginning not in reverse.

Okay, since you decided to dredge up a discussion that was already settled, I'll explain my comments:

Ecumbh1999 says "They didn't use their mascot in it, only the school colors and for 45 years of using it they had the shape WRONG."

I respond with "They sure did" and provide a photo of a logo UNC used that doesn't have a legit shape of North Carolina. That is, unless you think North Carolina has no waterways separating the Outer Banks from the rest of the state. Also, if this map was correct, there would be no Outer Banks. It would just be shoreline.

[Image: images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRkDKIwQzk_jCeaPSkW7sM...6Ca8ALGUau]

ecumh1999 also says "They completely left off the outer banks. That would be like ODU leaving off the piece of Va that is just to the north of them."

I respond to that portion of his comment with "Oh and that little piece is called the Eastern Shore." Note that he referred to Virginia when he mentions "piece". Hence my use of the word piece.

Love the irony of you using the term dredge up a discussion that was already settled and then comment not once but then again and rehash the whole conversation and even dive into deeper meaning of the original post.

Thanks Charles.

?????????? What's that?

Oh, and we did have it trade marked, but if you knew anything about trademark laws you wouldn't have posted that.03-idea

Look at UDU's logo and ECU's logo, did ODU change 3 things? Yes, color, state, and Mascot. By law that's all they had to change. That's why you won't see any other North Carolina school use a similar logo. Again look at our logo and UNC's, three things different, Outline instead of a realistic shape (including the coastal water ways), color, no mascot.

I never claimed to know anything about trademark laws. That is not my field. Since, as you claim, ODU didn't violate ECU's trademark then the claims that ODU stole their design would seem to be baseless. I know it's the offseason, and things are probably as slow over on the AAC board as they are over here, but it seems like a somewhat petty thing to be concerned about.

Never claimed it was stolen, ECU is making no claim. It's banter for the offseason. But, as the article I posted earlier states, they got the idea for their new logo from............... Drum roll, please................ECU.

In any case, I've been in this board since I joined back in 2010, lurked before that. ECU is still in C-USA until 7-1-2014, so I will still post here as my school is STILL a member of C-USA.07-coffee3

Ecumbh is a solid poster. I, in fact, knows he owns ODU gear based upon his visit to Norva last year for the Villanova game (what a terribly disappointing game of all to choose). I think he is attempting to carry a conversation, not discuss trademark law. And I could really care less if ECU/UNC/UT/TAM. etc get cheesed that we use the state image in our arena.

I look forward to eating his grub and drinking his swill in Greenville a few months from now.

Yes, Smitty, just talking. Nothing much to it really. Just happen to a little about trade mark law cause of my job, I need to know. Yes I have ODU gear, but I have gear from nearly 15 different schools I visited.

My comment wasn't directed at you ecumbh. As you said, it's just talk, no offense was intended. Like Smitty, I'm just going to take it for what it is and not worry about it. Life is too short for that!
