After doing some research about Kenneth Mouton, it appears Eastern never offered. I find it very upsetting because Scout.com showed Eastern offering. In a story about him on Scout.com, it appears that his only offers were from Navy and Bethune-Cookman. As I said before, Scout.com needs to do a better job, or is it Eastern's responsibility in this matter? He was always listed as a prospect on Eastern's Scout.com page, with an offer from Eastern.

I think this whole QB issue has been convoluted beyond belief because of Baker.

I'm not sure the issue is with Rivals or Scout.

There are two factors here which I think are complicating things:

1). Official visit - is an official visit. Player may or may not have been offered before the visit.

2). Offer - Players are offered but may or may not visit.

Regardless of #2, Mouton was scheduled for an official visit I believe this weekend.

To me, the official visit is the key. I assume that the visit is the real expression that both the school and player are seriously interested in having the player sign the letter of intent.

RE: My top EMU FB recruiting targets
I should mention that the school has NO responsibility in the accuracy or inaccuracy of this information re: offers or visits.

Matter of fact, I believe schools prefer that the information not be publicly known,

I assume a school would deny a request by the media for a list of visitors.

That information comes from the player, his family, or his coaches.

What happens is that fans try to get the information and recruiting information has become a cottage industry the last few decades.

RE: My top EMU FB recruiting targets
One other thing we should keep in mind.

Schools do 'over sign' (more than 25). Temple is at 30 now.

Basically if there are recruits with possible academic issues a school might over sign and see which player(s) don't make it.

IF the school has more than 25 who do make it, they have to deal with the issue of getting down to the right number.

I see no evidence that we are oversigning but it is an option if English has some academic questionable recruits he'd like to sign.

As I understand it, recruits who sign LOI and don't qualify by the start of say fall semester are released from their LOI. It is null and void.

BTW, the EMU student search applet indicates that DT Cy Maughmer is listed as an EMU student. Welcome!!

Dear emu steve,
Thanks for answering, as well as clearing up, many of the questions that I had about recruiting boards. Maybe each school should have its own site, and release information as they see fit. I know that would probably cause fits for some of us, but it certainly would be (I think) more accurate.

Thanks I assume Cy will be eligible for spring practice? What about our other JUCO DL?

Actually, they can't. They have to wait until the national signing period begins and the athletes sign their LOI.

The ONLY thing EMU could do, but doesn't, would be to announce the signings of the mid-year JUCO signees.

They can be announced as they have signed during a special signing period for mid-year JUCO so they are duly signed and in school.

Last year EMU announced their signings along with the other signees.

That will be Wed. Feb 1 this year.

Once I know for sure about the 2nd JUCO signee, I'll post that here.

RE: My top EMU FB recruiting targets
BTW, we know of two mid-year JUCO signees but that could still change as school is just starting and the 'window' isn't closed yet for mid-year JUCO transfers.

Do remember, though, most JUCOs need to get their degree so they aren't eligible to transfer to a 4-year institution until summer.

Any JUCO(s) who might be visiting this weekend could be for January or September semesters depending on their academic situation.

Dear emu steve,
Thanks again for clearing the air on college websites. I had no idea there were that many controls on college recruiting. Almost makes you want to do away with the whole system. I guess not quite.

No!

The LOI system was instituted to bring 'civility' to recruiting.

If you thought war was hell, well recruiting would rank up there.

It could get real cut throat and dirty.

Schools would be poaching kids the day before they would enroll in school.

The LOI system essentially institutes a 'contract' between the player and the school which prevents others from breaking that contract.

Just like a contract for the sale of a house. Once the contract is signed others need to cease and desist any further efforts.

I'll keep posting but I don't violate one of the "Golden Rules":

IF it isn't out on the Internet, don't put it out on a board.

If in doubt, PM someone else whom you trust and value their opinion and ask their opinion.

Coaches don't like their privileged information out on public boards for all to see.

I've seen this on other boards (e.g., Rivals, Scout) where all of the recruiting stuff was dumped onto the site. I heard one case where a school threatened to bar the guy from the athletic grounds.

This reminds me of one of the most unbelievable Congressional hearings I ever saw.

A cabinet Secretary was called before Congress regarding a large data breach.

The committee chairman asked the Secretary if he knew that his CyberSecurity czar had just resigned. (obviously someone had leaked it to the committee so the Secretary would be blindsided).

The Secretary was stunned and looked back at his acting Asst Sec for IT and he (the acting Asst. Sec. for IT) pulled out a BlackBerry and read the e-mail resignation he had just received from his Blackberry.

The dumbfounded committee chairman asked: Mr. Secretary who is running the shop?

People in authority hate these kind of surprises, leaks, blind sides, etc.

Monte Taylor, DE, Maryland.

Here is another DE prospect who EMU got involved with late.

His recruiting is up in the air because of a coaching change at UNC.

(I put a lot of weigh on prospects who were talked too in Dec. and Jan by EMU).

I checked out Rival.com and it is not showing us making him an offer. This is what Ken was talking about on another thread...

I was never a big fan of "recruiting" but I am getting kinda fired up now. I can't wait to see who we bring in. Really hoping for the big WR Charley Meyer.

RE: My top EMU FB recruiting targets
This article shows the 'risks' of recruiting potential BCS quality athletes.

This kid was very, very high up on my list of players I'd love to see in Green and White. He might have been my #1 target among h.s DLs, a DT with big upside. A 3 star H.S. DT from Ohio. Does it get any better than that?

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/re...son-125913

He was a MAC target (most of the MAC schools were recruiting him) and he then opted for Duke and now the Big Ten is all over him very late and he is visiting MSU, IL, and Pitt. Sorry Duke?

http://www.freep.com/article/20120112/SP...RONTPAGE|s

IF a MAC school had gotten a verbal, they would have almost certainly lost him as apparently Duke will to some school swooping down at the last minute. MSU is trying to replace a DT who opted for the NFL early.

And do remember the only recruits who are 'in the bank' are those mid-year JUCOs who signed during the special signing period for eligilbe JUCOs. That would be Maughmer and Lisner. Maughmer is listed as being an EMU student in the online student directory.

BTW, this shows why I love FB recruiting and pretty much given up on hoops recruiting.

The amount on information for FB recruiting can be breathtaking.

Hoops recruiting for schools like EMU can be like grabbing at straws. Quite frankly most hoops recruiting posts contain very little 'hard information'.

Dear Friends,
Any scoop on Theron Wilson? Again, if Scout.com can be trusted, they show him with an offer from Eastern. How did he do statistics wise, this past season? Number of receptions, touchdowns, etc? He seems to have fallen off the radar. Just asking if anyone has any information?

I find recruiting to be a very dirty business. Coaches offer scholarships and then withdraw them. Players accept scholarships and then back out. It's a system rife with betrayal.

I believe he is now an EMU student.

Both Maughmer and Lisner should be good to go for spring ball.
