I loved their newscasts and the lead-ins.

This is Byron McGregor CKLW news. "There were six hot lead divorces in the Motor City last night" of "The no vacancy sign is up at the city morgue this morning".

and wasn't he the one that did the "noone helps the Americas" broadcast? I suppose I could google it, but that seems like cheating, not remembering.

"It's 20 minutes past 8. This is Byron MacGregor. C-K-L-W 20-20 News...."

Byron did do the spoken-word tune "The Americans".

If you want to reminisce more about "The Big 8", go here...

Nope, it sure didn't last very long, but while it was on, they had a VERY loyal Toledo listener.

You can still listen to some of these vintage bits available on You Tube. Just type in CKLW and enjoy. I have, and what a trip!

I remember riding in the car, with my dad when they did the report on the boy who was run over by the steel truck, the shovels, etc. My dad looked at me and asked how his family must feel. Good point, dad.

This site has some great memories of the early Rock Scene in Toledo. Be sure to scroll down and look at the archives.

Remember the battles of the bands at the LCRC?

Blowout in the Body Shop dances? (Can't recall which auto shop those were in. Brondes?)

Concerts or BotB's on the north side of Macys on Secor. (was it Lasalles then?)

Driving out to Swanton Coliseum to see Hair Inc., The Rogues, or Fried Water perform before a Wet Sun Light Show.

RE: OT - You Know You are From Toledo If...
Any other Eastsiders here maybe can help me out? I'm trying to piece together in my slipping mind the "business" district down Starr and Main?

From Parker down Starr, Tastee Bread, Oak Barrel, Citgo?, Von Ewiggens? Max Reddish's, EJ Smith Grocery, Red Rooster, Pit Stop, Ben Franklins, some restaurant, a bakery?, a small Dept store and bank across from the A&P then the turn down Main St. I'm not even going to try Main St until I get Starr figured out.

Any help?

Don's Drive In was on Main Street. I believe Frankie's was a restaurant on Main street back then. There was also a coney hot dog place on Broadway. Also had Craig's Beer Barrel - which was East of the downtown area you are referring to. Spent some time in the Pit Stop when I lived in East Toledo for a year. Had no chance against the kids that had been going there for years. I went to Raymer for 5th grade before moving again - and there was a little burger place near the school where we used to go for lunch on special occasions (like having some money) called Jones's (I think).

BTW - It was VonEwegen's drug store. I went to school at Fassett and Clay a year behind Jack VonEwegen.
