OT - You Know You are From Toledo If...
You know you're from Toledo if...

You get tired of hearing about Katie Holmes.

You have gotten or almost gotten a ticket in Ottawa Hills.

You refuse to call it Westfield Shopping Center, because we all know it is really Franklin Park Mall.

You freeze your butt off walking around The Toledo Zoo at 10 degrees because you want to see Christmas lights.

You know how to drive in snow, rain, and hail.

You know what Meijer is.

If you see a driver who is driving erratically you automatically check for the Michigan license plate.

Visiting Cedar Point is a tradition dating back to the elementary school years.

You have a favorite room in The Toledo Art Museum.

You know who Jamie Farr is.

You graduated at the Stranahan or the Peristyle or Seagate.

Your school was cancelled because of the 7 inches of snow you got during the night.

You know who says 'Turtle'.

"Everybody's Zooing It" means something to you, and you can sing the song, weird accent and all.

Seeing a giant, neon-colored, plastic frog sitting on the sidewalk is nothing unusual.

You know where the original Tony Packo's is at and you know what type of food famous people sign on the walls.

You've been to a Mud Hens game.

Your mayor decides to change the fire hydrant color.

You know all the words to the Erie Street Market jingle.

At least one person you know works for Jeep.

You think having four all-girls and boys catholic high schools is normal.

You've ridden an elephant, a panda, a buffalo, and a turtle at the zoo.

You get into a legal jam and call Sam Boloton.

You know Major Magic's was way better than Chuck E. Cheese.

You know who Opal Covey is, and want her to run for mayor again just so you can watch the debate.

You remember the tunnel that used to go to the zoo and have jumped on the metal hatch at least 6 dozen times.

You've ever ridden the bike at COSI. Extra points if you know what COSI stands for. Let me know what it stands for if you know it.

You have four network TV news stations, but you only take two of them seriously.

You are used to food festivals (German, Polish, Irish, Greek and every other festival) and go to them even if you aren't of that nationality.

You know why Toledo is known as the " Glass City ".

You remember when a guy from Boys II Men got married to a girl from Toledo.

Mentioning Telegraph Road conjures images of adult bookstores and strip clubs.

You can pronounce Maumee correctly.

You realize that the town of Oregon and the state of Oregon are pronounced differently.

You know who Blizzard Bill Spencer is.

Ending up in Michigan after taking a wrong turn does not incite panic because it's like going across the street.

You remember Southwyck BEFORE it fell apart and became empty and crappy. Or you've even HEARD of Southwyck.

You will always call MUO "MCO" and your parents will always call UT "TU"

You wouldn't eat a fish from the Maumee River , and you wouldn't EVER swim in it!

No matter what the story is whether it?s about a man from Japan or a tornado in Oklahoma , the news stations always find someone in Toledo who can relate or has been affected by it.

You know what they are referring to when they sing "There goes another one."

You know what school someone is from when someone refers to them as a frannie or a johnny.

You own at least one piece of Libbey Glass in your home.

You know Toledo has the 3rd best water in the world.

You can correctly answer the question on Trivial Pursuit Millenium Edition, about naming the mayor of an Ohio town that wanted to pass legislature to have all the deaf people moved out by the airport. THEN WE RE-ELECTED HIM!

You know where to yell MODERN FLOOR!! AND no one comes out and gets you!

You've been to Uncle John's Pancake house for the all you can eat special.

You know that Spring Meadows has nothing to do with spring or meadows.

Your childhood memories include riding the carousel at Southwyk mall.

You remember when the Big Boy on Secor disappeared.

You remember those affordable chiropractic commercials where the guy always played the guitar.

You can remember the mummy being in the Egyptian room at the museum.

You know that the girl in the Missy Elliot video's name is Alyson Stoner and is from Toledo ...and every time you see her in a movie or on TV you are like "SHE IS FROM TOLEDO"

The candidates for most elections are a party-endorsed Democrat and a Democrat running as an independent.

You've been to Music Under The Stars at the Toledo Zoo with your grandparents.

You know that the BEST place to buy corn and strawberries is Monnettes' Market!

Almost every one knew Teressa Brewer was from Toledo.

The most popular family in Maumee or Toledo, was the Andersons.

Toledo was the RAILROAD center of Ohio.

Your really, really old if you can remember the Sullivan championship fight in Bayview Park.

Remember Doehlor Jarvis..those who worked there showed you the burn scars from flying metal.

Your right! The amusement park in North Toledo was called "Willow Beach".

Champion Spark Plug helped make Toledo famous.

Remember the Lion Store, the Fair Store, Tiedkees, Paramount theater, Rivoli Theater, the Princess Theater, LaSalle Store, Valentine Theater, and B. R. Bakers. You can, wow, your old.

Can you still sing the words to "Were Strong for Toledo"....T-O-L-E-D-OOOOOOOO".

Toledo had also been known as "The Auto Parts Capital of the World". Several large, Fortune 500 automotive related companies had their headquarters in Toledo. Electric AutoLite, Sheller-Globe Corporation, Champion Spark Plug, Questor, and Dana Corporation are examples of large auto parts companies that began in Toledo. Only Dana Corporation is still in existence as an independent entity. The Jeep vehicle has been manufactured in Toledo since 1941 as well. Willys-Overland was a major automaker headquartered in Toledo until 1953.

If you know that the new wing of the Art Museum is clad in copper.

If you ever climbed the bell tower at UT.

If you know that the Zoo started with just one animal and know what that animal was.

there have to be a million more.

Wow, what a flood of memories you guy are bringing back to this old dude. Keep 'em coming!

You mentioned a couple of Colony businesses, but left out 2 huge ones, imo: Brauer's Delicatessen and the Colony Restaurant.

Anyone remember the Westwood Theater BEFORE it was an adult venue?

Franklin Ice Cream on Sylvania Ave REALLY hits home. My favorite grandmother worked there long before I was born (when my dad was a kid actually), almost up to the day she died in 1963. I STILL remember that wonderful little place, and I was only 7 when she died.

Mr. Entertainer was THE place for live music when I was in high school and the few years right after (til their fire).

Here's a trivia question for you old timers that have such good memories:
What was the Ottawa Tavern ORIGINALLY?

In a senior moment the other day I made a check out to "Lane's" while at Rite-Aide. And for other UT dormies I would be remiss not to mention Ace Drugs. They were my personal bank while I was at UT, my pharmacy, my grocery and library as well. Loved that place!

Speaking of Rinks Bargain city, 100 points to anyone who remembers the location of the original Bargain Barn.

Someone recall to me what Kiddieland was.

I think the Bargain Barn was on Detroit just north of the Viaduct near Joey's Supper Club.

My mom used to work at a Rink's Bargain City in Bowling Green. And I used to work at Damschroeder's fresh out of Owens.

Also, here is one that many of you probably don't know:

Mr. Janney actually approached Brondes Ford with the idea to put the Ford logo upside down but the Ford Corporation would not let them do it. So Janney's became the upside down place.

Unfortunately, it is now the torn down place as it is now a pile of rubble until it becomes a much needed rite aid.

Why? Are there only three drugstores on that corner now?

The Westwood did show foreign films(non-porn).The Colony Restaurant was a family favorite. The big Franklins was on Monroe where the mall was built.Brauers was excellent.

Another name that I was thinking about was the Kenwood Colonial with it's fireplace.
