And there used to be some great pick up basketball games on the courts under the High Level Bridge. Lots of wasted talent.

I used to play in gmaes there. Good times- I remember it could get pretty noisy from the traffic on the bridge. And I got a yard full of crabapples if you want some , east....

I just typed in the names you gave.

That's the same trick the neighbor used to pull on the kids to get his yard cleaned.

Eastisbest, thanks-when I googled Stone Alliance and the Tonesmen I got the picture and names which satisfied about two weeks of discussion and curiosity. I previously tried googling different combinations of the Showboat and names but never came up with anything.

OT: as the memory slips, google is my favorite cure for on the tip of my tongue. It's like tums for brain farts.

Glad I could help. Looking up old photos of the city is another fun waste of time. I don't recall if it has already been mentioned on this thread or not, here's a terrific website.

Thanks, I will be spending some time on the link you provided. I have listed a couple of sites I have been to for historic photographs. They may already be on the site you provided. I agree with you about Google. The older I get the more things stay on the tip of my tongue and would not get dislodged if it were not for Google.

I live in historic Library Village north of Sylvania ave off of Willy's pkwy. A neighborhood with the most beautiful Library in the city and some of the most wonderful homes !! I don't know if anyone mentioned Rudy's Hot Dog! The original on Phillips ave across from The Longhorn Saloon. The best sauce and chili in town to this day. They just celebrated 90 years in business in this town! And Mancy's Steak House in the same neighborhod. Another family owned business. I remember going to see Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Westwood in High School too!

Beautiful neighborhood and yes, the library too but that's not what I remember watching at the Westwood as a teen.

I haven't been keeping up ith all the posts in this thread but I always liked Farell's in Franklin Park Mall.

And Children's Palace (now Best Buy) was right up my alley for buying Atari and later Nintendo games.

My dad was born in a house his dad built on Parakeet in Library Village. That is, to me, what a library should look like. Don't remember what movies I saw at the Westwood, but recall they were cartoon types. Very first job was at the Frisch's on Haverhill and the house I first lived in as a baby was directly across the street from it.

They did a great job IMO with the new libraries but I agree. The new libraries don't say, "read a book here" to me like even the old Locke Branch, which was barely more than a closet. For window views though, the new one on the Eastside wins the cake.

The best part about library village is the donut shop. Mancy's gets a close second.

I look at corridors like that from Lewis to the Library, there are some spectacular storefront buildings and houses, and I understand suburban living even less.

I used to hang out at Carr's Body Shop over there. Total musclehead gym in an old storefront. When the apartment overhead ran their shower the water drained on the floor of Carr's-they kept 50 gallon barrels under the hole in the ceiling to catch the water. There were some serious steroidal cases working out there- no machines, no cardio, just benches, racks and stacks of plates everywhere you looked.

For a brief time back in the late 90s, I think, the Big 8 was back, station breaks, DJs and all, on their fm station, 93.9. Absolutely loved it.

Story was that CK could be picked up in Havana on a clear night...one of the true mega stations.

That's a great call, Karl. You are absolutely correct.

Did not last very long from what I remember.
