lets see

grizz vs detroit on monday night
tigers vs la tech on tuesday night
grizz vs portland tonight
christmas shopping and parties

nothing much going on this week is there. you CANT DO everything this time of year - something has to give.

TG4 - I love ya, but holiday games at the coliseum CONSISTANTLY fell in the 5-6000 actual butts in seats attendance range.

Boo hoo! All of you too good to sit and in upper level and too poor to buy lower level seat folks are the problem.

I'll be at the Gonzoga game in my upper level seats. I bought them weeks ago, and I can't wait. I'll have some good food on Beale and a great time at the game, and when it's over, I can proudly say that I WAS THERE!

When FANS (and anyone who hangs out here is already overboard) as rabid as us don't think the upper level seats are worth having, then what do you expect the rest of the community to think? You go to support your team - not because you have good seats.

Criminey! If I could afford every game in the upper deck I'd be there. If they were uncomfortable like the Pyramid, I might understand. If you felt like you were going to fall down and break your neck, like the Pryamid, I'd understand. But the upper level at the Forum is comfortable and accessable. You can see the game, the scoreboards, and the jumbotron. If people would GO, there would be plenty of concessions as well.

Until the rabid fans start sitting in the upper level, the casual fans are going to follow our lead and continue to stay home and watch TV. We are setting a very bad example.

exactly. it is that danged bread and water crowd that is holding us back. ;-) the wine and cheesers were mostly there last night. 04-wine

and Cal is going to have to get over the attendance comparisons to Kentucky and Louisville. Memphis is just not going to put 18K in the seats for every single game. It's not going to happen and I don't think that is anything to be ashamed of. There are only a handful of schools in the country that draw better than Memphis.

and i guess i am way off base, because i was pretty happpy with 14K against LA Tech on a Tuesday night

Could you afford a season ticket in the upper level @ $149 per season?

boo hoo my butt.

its called MARKETING. the days of just rolling a ball out and folks showing up because there is nothing better to do are long gone.

the majority of long time tiger fans LEFT last year. season ticket sales are way down from the pyramid years. you've got to convince them to come back or get new folks to move in. and by giving them over half the building that has all the charm and ambiance of my moms attic - thats tough.

Are you saying that scolding the fans will not work to pack the place? lmfao

I can afford the tickets, but I can't go to many of the games. I also have differing numbers of guests when I go, so I plan and buy single game seats in the numbers I need. Since the upper bowl is empty, I can do this at will, and it works out fine for me. When it sells out, then I'll have to decide if I want season tickets or not.

That's what burns me up. For YEARS people bitched and moaned about not being able to get a ticket at the MSC. Now tickets are available ON DEMAND, but "they don't want to sit in the upper level". GEEZ! I remember when you couldn't get a seat at all. This is the lap of luxury folks. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Well now that I have actually been to the Forum I feel like I can have a little say. The place was built to give the lower level people the feeling that they are getting what their big bucks deserve but the people in the upper level feel like peasants. Too far from the game and you might as well stay home and watch it on TV.
The crowd was great for the Tuesday before xmas and for an opponent that most people don't care about watching.

Serious question.

If Calipari creates a legitimate top 10 program, how long before MEMPHIS starts insisting the basketball season ticket holders also purchase football season tickets?

Isn't there something like 12000 basketball season ticket holders?

12000 x 2 football season tickets = 24,000. Or 4 football season tickets = 48000.

Of course, I fully realize many of those fans already buy football season tickets. But probably not all. Maybe HALF. Maybe.

So MEMPHIS is looking at a net gain of 12000 football season tickets.

Is this going to happen? Don't forget the various donation levels ($100 - $5000) the basketball season ticket holders must pay as well!!

Quote:Could you afford a season ticket in the upper level @ $149 per season?

Ned, wouldn't he also have to make at LEAST a minimum $100 donation to the basketball program as well in order to be ALLOWED to purchase a season ticket? Some people may NOT be able to spring for $250 for 16/17 basketball games, but can purchase a few single game tickets.

I'm one of those people as well. I buy 4 football season tickets each year, and about 2-3 road game tickets (and attendant costs of road trips), and try to attend the bowl game (couldn't this year but did buy two tickets to support the team/program). I also make an annual donation to TSF. Obviously my focus is on the football program! LOL! But the truth is I just can't spring for 2 or 4 basketball season tickets as well. I attend with my buddy if one of his tickets is available. Now, I am using "vacation" money in March to attend the C-USA Tournament.

I am a season ticket holder in the THIRD LEVEL. All you people bitching about it would not be there anyway regardless of the view. It is your cop out plain and simple. People are not going to hand you mid court 1st row. They cost more money. If you want great seats pay great prices. If you cannot afford those but "want to support the team" buy the upper level tickets (they might be the best bargain in all of basketball when you consider how good the product is) and go enjoy yourself.

There are less than 9k season ticket holders.

that will NEVER happen.

and i have season tickets upstairs because I CHOSE to spend the extra $1500 it would take to move to the club on other things. Im not "bitching" about sitting upstairs at all - I DECIDED ON MY OWN TO DO THAT.

i AM bitching about the lack of flat out caring for the people that DO sit up there that is shown by the forum staff and university marketing.

The funniest thing about the upper level is that while my ass and knees had plenty of room I kept waiting for Sir Hillary to throw me a line to help me up to the seats or for a sherpa to come and help me. lol
Also you are correct that the product is good. When a spectacular play happens up high what do you instantly look at? Well you can watch the play with great clarity at home and keep the dough in your pocket. I can never see us selling many of those upper level season tickets.

Do you want them to come rub your feet during the game? Don't get me wrong I wish the beer guy came upstiars more but what do you want them to do besides open all the concession stands up there?

Jeb, I understand your complaint. It looks like a Catch 22. The only way to fix it is to put more people up there, and people won't come until they fix it. All I can say is that it is in the Forum and the University's highest interest to treat everyone in the upper levels for the Gonzaga game like royalty. If they screw this one up, then they will lose those sales for the reset of this year. If they do it right, we should be able to increase upper level attendance be a couple of thousand for the rest of the year.

never f'ing mind.

we've beat on this subject for 2 years now. you are happy - great. i think we are missing opportunities. again WE can do better. but right now, we are not and the situation with attendance upstairs is not getting better so we better try something ELSE.

having empty seats around you to stack your coats on is NOT an amenity.

Our entire row is full. We have to stack our coats behind us but anyway. You are the one bitching so tell me what they can do to make you feel more at home. It is 2 hours of your life tell me what they can do is all I ask and you get frustrated at me? Come on jeb you're better than that.
