I have given this some thought, and I think that this will be the first time we actually ever consider Charlotte a big game for us.
Usually, it's there biggest game of the year when we travel to their gym, and our players kind of look at it like, "who's Charlotte?"
I think Cal is going to play the underdog role to perfection and have us motivated to go up there and play hard.
Final score
Memphis 88
Charlotte 82

We'll have to beat the REFS moreso than the 49ers.

Its not going to be that high scoring. Expect the game to be in the 60s or low 70s.
The only way we can win this game is to make sure Plavich doesn't get any open looks at three & we need our big guys Erwin, Dorsey, Barclay, Waki to have a great defensive game to shutdown the Withers & Basden combo.
Those two are averaging over 32ppg & almost 17rpg.
The X factor for us Darius Washington. Can he step up again and get us out of hole? If he can continue to breakdown defenses in transition we will win this game.
Memphis 69 - Charlotte 67

Actually I believe that it is going to continue to be the REBOUNDS and TURNOVERS that are the key to this game, they have to guys
(Basden and Withers) that are averaging over 8 boards a game.
This is the first year in many that Charlotte is not jacking up threes at a unheard of rate, they still have Plavach(sp) who will shoot from anywhere, but that is not the key to there team, it is a more inside oriented team.
I dont believe they will present the kind of ball pressure that has bothered us at times this year which is plus but they do pound the ball inside to Withers(POY candidate) which has given us problems although that was earlier in the year.
SO Rebound the ball and not turn it over and we have a chance.
Unless they hit 15 3's.

how do you win on the road...? even against pornstashe's team....?
1. don't get rattled early
2. defense defense defense defense defense
3. REBOUND...you must limit the little gnome's players to one look per possession
4. no stupid fouls
5. limit turnovers
the point is...every possession counts. you must play like an NCAA berth is on the line on every possession, because in some ways, it is...

This may be Dorseys big coming out party. If he can play great defense on their bigs and pull down the rebounds without getting into foul trouble them I think we will have a really great chance. We do not need Dorsey to win but it makes me feel good that he could really have a big impact if he chooses to do so in a huge game! Lets go Dorsey!!!!

Here's a tip, next time don't think so hard on it.
You're our biggest game? Dream on.
Cincy, UL and Marquette all rank ahead of Memphis. How in the world can you be our biggest game when the last 10 years you've not sniffed the success we have?
Put the bong down.

That is real good that you feel that way! Just keep believing that we are not your biggest game. Sounds good to me 49er.

Here is another soon to be off to the flaming board.
If you plan on saying anything about this game, just go on and post it over there.
A war will break out , I assure you.
I think we will be very fortunate to beat them on their own floor.
Likewise, I think they would be very fortunate to beat us here.
We are both good teams and if both play as they can, it should be a great game!
Go TIgers!

It's not a matter of opinion, it's a fact.
Memphis is not, has not, nor would ever be, or biggest game. Cincy beats you guys by a mile, as do UL and Marquette.
The fact is other than the extreme hatred the fans on our respective messageboards feel this game is no bigger than Depaul in the minds of Niner fans as far as what it means to our fans.
It's a big game this year because of how close we are in the standings and is important for seeding. But just generally speaking this is just another game we need to win, nothing more.
I agree with loyal though   it will be tough for you all to win here, as it would be for us to win there. I think our teams are pretty evenly matched with the slight edge to us on the inside. I think the game comes down to a home court advantage if both teams are playing their best.
I look forward to a good game.

Memphis is not Charlotte's biggest game of the year, sorry. Cincinnati is, easily. For this year's Cincinnati game, there were 116 tents of people camping out for tickets. For Memphis, it was 18. That's not even close. And Cincinnati has been the only consistent sellout at Halton. But Charlotte fans are excited about this year's game, I'll give you that. A lot of that though, has to do with how well the Niners have been playing lately, the fact that this game is so important as far as conference standings and tournament seedings go, and also the fact that the Niners are nationally ranked. It's amazing what that little number beside the name can do for attendance. Still, there's no denying that Memphis has been playing great basketball lately, and this should be an awesome game.

there are about 750 folks who REALLY CARE about charlotte basketball. period. end of story.

But you only have a couple of hundred real fans and half of them post on your message board, so it must be a big game for you guys.
We've had 400 people on our board at times, which is 10% of the attendance at some of your games.
