For what it's worth, a popular coaching rumors Twitter account tweeted this out yesterday. Personally I get the vibe more that they're covering for the fact they called Mike Jones a done deal with an announcement coming soon about a week ago and it still hasn't happened. Especially since when they were saying that, Mettlen was saying that's not the case and that JMU was still talking to Richey.

The tweets:
"Something I’ve heard from talking to coaches at public schools in particular is universities have implemented a hiring freeze during the temporary “shut down” due to the coronavirus. It’s possible the firing of coaches may also be impacted which we’ve said before may save coaches

"Because of this, we may see schools (JMU) delaying the announcement of a new head coach. Keeping in the state of Virginia, the school we mentioned with JMU is Radford, another state school. All indications we hear is that Mike Jones is the guy, but may have to hold up for a bit. "
