Technically, it's according to HCLR since it's his quote.

Maybe I'm an idiot, but how does my sentence of "according to LR (Lou Rowe) via Shane Mettlen..." need a correction? As in I should remove the reference to Shane since only LR said it? Which I led with and would have been grammatically correct?

One could say he isn't HCLR since he is EXHCLR.

They need to take their time with this hire.

In fact, if they haven't already, they need to be reaching out to wealthy donors with a groveling, compunctious tone to get some serious compensation supplementation in place with which to barter.

"Dear supporter, we keep f@cking up and need your help to do it right..."

Hahaha I’m so sorry. I just read it wrong! Didn’t even see the LR reference. I’ll slow down.

No worries. I am not a grammar expert, which led me to wonder if I was indeed wrong.

Welcome aboard Steve Enright!!!

Surprise! No one very close. This might be closest.

Steve Enright would have had the same impact on the program perception as Mark Byington - none.
Will the fans that have been lost due to 4 straight losing years come back for Byington? No. Will the players be impressed by his resume? No.

It is very hard to believe this is what JMU is doing after going all in on the new arena.
Talk about letting the air out of the balloon. 03-banghead

Hart:

I have known you a long time. When did you become such a drama queen? Listening to this guys press conference makes me feel really good about him. He isn’t the “name” coach you wanted but he has just as good of a chance at success.

If you want to never watch JMU basketball again, I understand. It has been too many years since we had a consistently good product to support.

This guy seems different than the other hires. Very grounded. Good track record. We will know more once we see him on the sidelines in November.

While I am reserving judgement until we see what Coach B can do, I understand Hart's frustration. Is our program such a dumpster fire that no other decent coach wanted to be at JMU?

RE: Date Next Year's Coach will be announced
JMUNation, I like talking sports and always view it as 4 guys talking about it at a bar. I’m not sure why people are so sensitive if they have differing opinions.
Take a sip of your beer and provide your opinion. Maybe even throw in some facts that helped you get to your opinion. 04-cheers

Then we can go to the games and root for the Dukes to win.

I feel that Byington does not move the needle for people who might consider buying tickets for next year in the new arena. If you feel differently, chime in and maybe do it without calling me a Drama Queen. It doesn’t hurt my feelings, but you know better.

If you turn back the clock 4 years ago and Bourne told you he was going to hire a new coach for the opening year of the AUBC and it was going to be a head coach who has never made the NCAA tourney in his 7 years at. Sun Belt school, you would be just as disappointed as me. Makes you wonder why we built a $100 million SEC level arena. Could have saved $50 million and built it like Elon did.

I hope we don’t want this to be a JMU propaganda board and any dissenting opinions should be censored.

RE: Date Next Year's Coach will be announced
Hey buddy. Since we know each other, I thought you would know I was busting your chops. I meant no harm and it is exactly what I would have said if we were at a bar together.

You know JMU is going to spend lots of money building really nice buildings. Always has and likely always will. Bonds fund these buildings. State funding is quirky. You can spend a ton on nice buildings but the pool of money that funds coaches salaries doesn’t allow for $1 million salaries. To pay a coach that kind of money requires big donor support. VCU has this and so does UR. The donors supplement the coaches salary. JMU does not have donor support for coaches salaries in basketball. They did for Houston in football.

The reality is your finger pointing over the low coaches salary should be inward at yourself, me and all the donors in this board. We either don’t have that kind of Jack or don’t wish to part with our hard earned money to fund a college coaches salary.

You know the facts which is why I am confused at your continued brow bashing of the administration when they just signed Byington to the highest basketball compensation package in JMU history and well above what he was paid at FBS Ga. Southern.

Now let’s hug it out and sign the fight song together.

RE: Date Next Year's Coach will be announced
We shouldn’t be comparing JMU’s current basketball coach salary to JMU’s previous basketball salary. We should be comparing it to successful mid major basketball coach salaries. And in that case JMU is woefully short which is why the candidate pool was mediocre.

Rowe was the lowest paid coach in the CAA. No matter who JMU hired it would have the appearance of significant increase over his salary.

Yes, I would have been glad to chip in if JMU needed money to land a big hire. If JMU asked, they sure didn’t go very far down the donor list because that was never asked of me.

For example, JMU says we have John Thompson III interested but it is going to take $1 million/year can you help us close the $500k annual gap? Why yes I gladly would.

JMU says we have Rick Pitino interested but it is going to take $1 million/year can you help us close the $500k annual gap? No way. He is a cheater and a sleazy person. I would not give money for that.

JMU says we have Matt McMahon interested, but it is going to take $750k/year and a buyout of his current contract at Murray State can you help us close the gap? Well, I will give some extra but not as much because his track record is much shorter although it is good.

You should call Bourne and let him know you have $500k to contribute annually toward a coaches salary.
