If have seen very little of the former and a lot more of the latter. The whole 4 out, 1 in offense works great if you have studs. We don't have a shot blocking, defensive stalwart at Center and a 4 who can shoot the three & rebound like Kris Jenkins. We don't have these necessary cogs, but we persist in this formula . Actually, offensively, I think he has made some adjustments. We went from living and dying by the three to adding some iso plays and quite a bit of forcing the ball inside. Honestly, Banks missed a lot of shots he made in the past (not blaming him; he usually stays within his game) and since they were good looks, I don't think you can blame the system. Also, while you can point to Rowe for not stopping some others from taking forced shots early in possessions, that wasn't really a problem with the scheme.

If you were to add one more bucket per game from Banks and then one more from better situational awareness, all of a sudden JMU is a pretty average shooting team and then even normal free throw shooting would have put them in the top 60 or 70 in scoring.

My problem was that they never figured out defense and never tried to use their athleticism to their advantage. Even if you are not going to commit to pressing and trapping like I thought they should have, switch things up constantly to keep the other team on edge. Everything was always way too easy for our opponents to figure out this year.

I tend to agree.....offense is NOT the main problem, could it be a little better yes, but that is not why they lose. IMO the big 4 reasons they lose are:
1. Poor FT shooting
2. Poor/inconsistent defense
3. Poor/inconsistent rebounding

And all 3 of these things are not really talent related, they hustle, heart, 'want to' related and you gotta bring it every night.

Some games you just are not gonna shoot it well offensively and that is just basketball but FT shooting, defense, and rebounding should be consistent and good every night and travel home and away.

The broadcast last night pointed out that JMU is last in percentages for field goals, 3 pointers and free throws. I'm not sure how that isn't a problem. But we are also last in defense. So even if our offense occasionally gets in gear, like the second half last night, the defense continues to be woeful and won't allow us to get back into games.
