Maybe. But, I wouldn't expect that. This team is not overly talented. Athletic as I've stated before? Yes. Look really good getting off the bus? Absolutely. But, Hoops IQ, playing unselfishly, playing balls-to-floor defense with guts and intensity? Huge question marks.

Let's remember Tony Bennett's first year at UVA had folks there thinking he was over his head when former 5-star (and ball hog) Sylven Landesburg departed midway thru the season because he didn't like Bennett's system and didn't want to play that way. I can immediately think of at least 1 player on our current roster that might (and I stress "might") fit that same mold. I hope not. I recall many UVA fans being upset with Bennett about that. I don't mean to get in a discussion about Bennett or UVA with that example. Instead, only to advise patience with any new head coach.

Could we get better significantly immediately? Of course. It will require a profoundly different set of open ears to learn and execute in the way the new head coach desires. In other words, dumping a lot (and I mean A LOT!) of old habits and developing total buy-in to the new staff. That all remains to be seen. Just like remains to be seen what the roster will even look like. We'll see... (HOPEFULLY!!!)

I've used similar terminology. This team appears to be athletic, but not talented. They also play with a low basketball IQ. Hard to tell how much of that is because the coach almost encourages a low discipline kind of basketball. Brady won with smart, coachable players that were neither talented nor athletic. Rowe lost with those same guys (minus Curry). I think a serious coach would get more out of this team and put guys on the bench or allow to transfer anyone that doesn't buy in and get it. And that would be a good thing.
