Both programs would be upgraded. We have a kickbutt football program that could have a terrific schedule as an independent. What would we be afraid of? Fantastic stadium...and reputation as a place where you can win.

But perhaps the new convocation center will get us the coach we want and we will be a winner in the CAA. I still like the better basketball and playing our old rivals in the A10.

Middle of the pack in CAA bball in 2 years and 2000 people in the stands will be just wrong.

Our conference is not the reason we've gotten poor coaches. Our admin is the reason. If we spent big money on a guy and was clearly our best option than I could see thinking that our conference was the problem. But there are really good coaches in bad conferences tearing it up. The thing where the CAA would be hurting us would be keeping a good coach.
We have facilities that make us one of the best in the CAA and near the top when it came to A10 or AAC.
When it comes to going A-10, we might get a better coach if we were there, but they don't want any piece of us right now. Regardless of facilities, MBB is a liability and they want a program to bring them up, not down. There is nothing to indicate that we would make the A-10 better.
But let's say they were dumb enough to take us and we went there. The fate of football would be sealed- we would be "FCS for lyfe" as some like to say. There is no way in hell that JMU would go Independent. They would stay FCS unless they got a football only invite somewhere and our chances of going FBS would plummet as it would be that much more difficult to go FBS. Independent will never happen.
