D2 News & Notes
Since D2football.com won't give me an account, I'll just start a D2 sports thread right here. DavidSt, you are welcome to post on this thread if you wish, but it must be about D2 schools sports.

RE: D2 News & Notes
Before I jump much further in my own thread, I would like to explain its purpose and the role of D2.
The purpose of my thread is to get out information about my alma mater, the University of Montevallo, the Gulf South Conference, and general information about D2, like games & matches played, facility pictures, awards, recruiting, etc. It is not a realignment thread because DavidSt has created that thread, and I do appreciate him for doing so. Anyone is welcomed on this thread, and questions are encouraged.

As for the purpose of D2, I feel like it is this in a nutshell: a home for small enrollment colleges & universities with small endowments and small budgets. Unlike in D1, where there is a stark contrast between public schools & private schools, in D2, IMO, you can't find too many differences.
I've heard the NCAA Division 2 slogan "Make It Yours," and it's true!! I believe that a lot of the innovators (coaches, athletic directors, adminstrators & college presidents!!) originally came from D2. "Make it your's" indeed!!

RE: D2 News & Notes
I covered the GSC for several seasons as a columnist on D2Football.com. Why can’t you get an account there?

I’m also a UM alum. I got my master’s degree there. I’d be happy to help you keep a thread going here. The GSC should have another great football season ahead.

And we’ll see if Ferris State can do it again.

Just sayin'

The West Virginia Higher Education Commission has refused to renew Alderson-Broadus University's accreditation (Mountain East Conference). They will review AB's status for a third time in mid-July, but if AB doesn't answer some key viability questions, their ability to issue degrees may be revoked...basically closing them down.

Wheeling is in the same spot. Last I read, they were talking about a possible sell to UWV as they are cash strapped. There have been some rumblings that WV Tech and Salisbury moving up to MEC. Just some rumors.

Today, Thomas More University and Westmont College join D2 from NAIA.

Le Moyne College leaves D2 for the Northeast Conference in D1.

Westmont you mean. Westminster is a school in Utah that has been in D2 for a while now.

Per d2football.com, I actually do have an account over there, but when I try to get a new password, nothing happens!!!

If VA would allow it, Christopher Newport would be a logical add as well.

Yesterday, Upper Iowa officially left the NSIC and joined the GLVC. One of thr reasons cited for the move was the weather.

Well, you’ve still got a LeMoyne, but you’ll have to take it with a side of Owen.

No.

There's been preliminary talk of it, but it's just talk.

RE: D2 News & Notes
Thank you to DawgNBama for starting this thread. I'm an alum of a school that is now D2 (one of many former NAIA schools that made the move). D2 is an entirely different animal from D1 with its own challenges and idiosyncrasies.

Looking forward to the discussion.

Wife is a Mississippi College alum (and former student-athlete) so I’ll enjoy keeping up with this thread.
