Also, SMU's Ford Stadium's capacity is 32,000 while ECU's newly renovated stadium seats just shy of 51,000.

The continual problems reported with scanners operated by the City of Memphis means an under count at the Liberty Bowl to an unknown extent.

Death, taxes, Memphis fans complaining about faulty scanners at the Liberty Bowl...

The fact of faulty scanning is undisputed. Therefore, the complaint is legitimate because it understates attendance. The complaint is directed against the City of Memphis for their failure to fix the issue.

A sell out like the Tiger victory over SMU should not be necessary to report the correct attendance.

I wasn't sure about the whole scanner thing.......I just always knew the stadium looked more full than the attendance figures showed week after week.

I can now honestly say, with firsthand knowledge that the scanners are a real problem. I was in line with my party of four to get into the SMU game. People in front of me.....scanned tickets went "beep", "beep", "beep"......then I got to the usher guy, he held the scanner over my ticket and..........nothing.

Then, even though it didn't register, he started waiving me through the turnstile, I held my ground and said to him: "Hey man, that didn't scan my ticket, it didn't beep or anything, please try again". I couldn't believe his answer: "I can only pull the trigger one time, I can't try again for the same ticket". I just stood there looking at him dumbfounded and was about to ask him why, and then the crowd behind me started to get impatient, so I just shrugged my shoulders and went through the turnstile.

I now know this is real and not made up.............

I also know that is bush league not to have adequate hardware/technology that works...........

I also know we don't own the stadium, the city does and always will, so I don't know what the ratio of paid attendance goes to U of M and what goes to the City of Memphis or how that split works. Perhaps the school doesn't care if the attendance is a little lower "reported-wise" as long as it looks good on TV?TM

Build your own stadium.....problem solved.

That's fairly common. I'm a season ticket holder, it happens more than I would prefer. The City of Memphis owns the LB...it is what it is.
It sucks, but if we aren't going to invest in accurate scanned tix, then pooh on us, I want that Indoor Practice Facility built first before I ***** about ticket accuracy,

Research indicates the issue with the scanners depresses the figures reported for actual attendance and not announced attendance.

Thank you for not only bringing sanity into this argument, but being real about it.

If this was the argument from the beginning, it would have made a lot more sense than what was going around.

Groupthink is a dangerous thing.
