This thread aged well, it only took the few hours between the release of the Coaches and the release of the AP. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving troll, LOL.

Cincy was a CUSA filler school for the Big East. But yeah, well done. One team from that mighty football league. One that was left behind.
Point stands

Hypothetical question: If the Big East had stayed together, how many would be ranked?
I would say that the Big East was a lucrative (and potentially highly lucrative), competitive football conference with good fan support, and that it was the partitioning of the Big East that made its former programs largely irrelevant.

Actually weren't SMU and Memphis in the Big East? Yes, but I get your point.

The AAC is technically the direct descendant of the original Big East. But, SMU never played a game branded as a Big East game.
When SMU joined, the new Big East had already taken over the brand.

Miami, VA tech would dominate like they did...WVU and Pitt would be solid. The big east was legit, but losing Miami was the beginning of the end. Moving them into a league with Clemson and Florida State took away their recruiting edge. Whenever a team moves conferences it changes the way that team performs. Syracuse and Louisville were basketball royalty...until you put then with UNC and Duke.

Probably 3 for media purposes. They were always weak schools and have proved it since being dispersed into decent leagues. Together they made each other look better than they ever were.

The AAC is now CUSA with Temple and Xconn. XConn is boom outa here.
My point was the big east football schools have proved what we always thought. Look at their records and rankings since it broke up.

Yeah, and it only took 15 years to be able to make that claim.

Been that way every year. Look at the records. I've posted this every year. Oh while I'm at it, congrats on Fuente. VPI....lulz.
We've almost washed the big east stench of mediocrity out of this conference

2003 Big East prior to CUSA teams & UGone football joining:
Boston College
Miami, FL
Pitt
Rutgers
Syracuse
Temple
Virginia Tech
West Virginia
None ranked this year but in 2018 Syracuse and West Virginia finished in the final AP poll. Pitt and Virgina Tech were also ranked during that season.

The sad part it was a good league for some pretty good schools that get lost against some bigger and better schools. Rutgers will never have a run like it did in the BE like it did in the B10.
For so many schools it was a good conference. It was the perfect conference for UC, and it sucks it is gone. A great basketball conference with 3 close natural rivalries in football.
I am not crapping on the AAC, but I miss having a rivalries that are a few hours away instead of a flight away.

That pretty much summarizes it. The BE ramped up our football program to the next level and basketball was a who's who juggernaut night in, night out. I do miss playing Louisville the most in both football and hoops.

I can't decide what's better about this thread, that the OP had to edit it after forgetting UC was in the big East, or that the big East made him so mad he still gets agitated about it 6 years after it died.

College football was better with 6 power conferences. And Syracuse, BC, Uconn, Pitt, WVU, Miami, VT were all better off with the Big East. I think that's obvious. The ACC and Big Ten are so diluted.
