RE: Is UConn going to be officially out next year for football?
Georgia State is moving in the right direction. That will eventually happen and I’ll be glad when it does. But right now is just too soon.
I really like the VCU/Air Force scenario. Wish that would happen. And it might. Waiting to see what the MWC’s media deal is all about before going to the next phase.

RE: Is UConn going to be officially out next year for football?
There is speculation here but a lot of pieces have to fall in place. That said, what good is a national schedule if you will likely average 2 or 3 wins a season. Looks like they have a body bag game in 21 at Clemson. LOL :)

He was asked by Neill Ostrout of the Journal Inquirer about the possibility of scheduling South Florida, Saturday’s opponent at Rentschler Field, next year and beyond as UConn adapts to life as an independent program.
“I don’t know,” Edsall said, and soon he was swearing for no good reason. “I could give a [bleep] about the schedule moving forward. Let’s just play one at a time. G** d***. Who cares about next year and the year after and all that bull[bleep]?”
Sounds like a plan to me. Maybe like the one UAB had?

EDIT: AND EACH SCHOOL IN THE AAC WOULD BE SMART TO LOOK AT THEM AS AN OPTION, TOO.
Partially because I'm living in frickin' Boston, but also because our OOC schedule in the future features the likes of Lamar, Houston Baptist, Stephen F. Austin and Abilene Christian. THESE SCHOOLS DO NOTHING FOR US. Hell, at least Texas State is FBS.
UConn is an FBS school that allows for a Northeast presence, and gives us a way to schedule them in basketball. If they don't want to schedule us in basketball, then insist on a 2-1.
EDIT #2: BUT THE AAC NEED THE FCS SCHOOLS OFF THE SCHEDULE AND UCONN IS GOING TO BE STRUGGLING AND A LITTLE DESPERATE.
From UCF's perspective, there is no difference in scheduling UConn and scheduling FAMU. Neither provides any credibility nationally for winning. FAMU brings a better crowd, but neither team really sells tickets in a meaningful way. And FAMU costs far less than playing UConn by not forfeiting a home game for a 1:1.
UConn missed their shot when they hired Paul Pasqualoni and he killed the momentum that Edsall had built. If they had made a good hire and kept playing at that level, they may very well have outmaneuvered Louisville into the ACC. So UConn fans really need to look at the administrators that hired Pasqualoni and blame them for everything.

I think all would be willing to put UCONN on schedule for bodybag games at FCS prices. I have zero interest in a level scheduling arrangement. 2 at AAC home and 1 at UCONN is the only way UCONN is filling the schedule with AAC teams.
The problem for UCONN is Sept is prime time for OOC, and they already filled that. To get someone to go to UCONN in Oct or Nov will be much harder to sell. Thus I think they will eventually do 2v1.
RE: Is UConn going to be officially out next year for football?
UConn will fill the remaining schedule with FCS games in 2020. They aren't going bowling anyway so who cares. 2021 and 2022 they will build back into an independent FBS schedules if they don't go back to FCS by then. Its going to take a number of years to get into a full FBS schedule as most FBS schools already have their OOC schedules booked out 4 or 5 years. Even independents like New Mexico St, Army, Liberty, UMASS, and BYU are pretty much booked out now for a couple of years. Enjoy independence for one night in the Garden UConn.

he knows, but its hard to recruit kids with fbs offers, even the mac with we are going to play mostly fcs in 2020 and not eligible for a bowl...
the schedule will be kept underraps for a while imo

Nobody any good is going to UConn now. No difference. They might as well save money and go FCS.

Probably will go FCS if they don't dump the FB program entirely. They can't even have Home Coming on Campus at the FCS level to draw the alumni back to the campus since they tore the old stadium down.
RE: Is UConn going to be officially out next year for football?
Another challenge UConn will have to deal with very soon (8 weeks) is whether or not to keep Edsall for another year. If they do, he gets another bonus (you know, for getting Not-Fired) plus the base salary. And if they don’t, they will have to go through a humiliating search-process for a new HC, knowing that exactly Nobody with the relevant background/experience is going to have the slightest interest in parachuting onto the deck of college football’s Titanic.

RE: Is UConn going to be officially out next year for football?
The answer is yes.
It was announced officially by AAC Commissioner Aresco, quite some time ago now; shortly after the announcement that UConn BB is moving to the Big East.
============================================
But perhaps you have a different question in mind.
What do you mean by "officially out" next year for football?
Do you mean "out," like "kaput," like no games or anything?
It seems the picture is shifting from day to day on that. Rumors keep flying. I don't think anybody knows the answer to that question.
All we know is that what some are calling "XConn" ("X" as in "ex" or "former partner") is departing 100% from the AAC by about June 30th, 2020.

I’d rather schedule another AAC team for an OOC series than go to UConn next year even if a late season slot will be difficult for us to fill.
