RE: Is UConn going to be officially out next year for football?
They won’t be eligible for bowl games next season.
A. They either loaded up on FCS opponents and will be ineligible for FBS postseason
B. They might just call it a wash and not play 12 regular season games
For everyone who thinks they have scheduling leverage because of basketball... not so fast my friend. Basketball already has a full OOC schedule. They wouldn’t break their current contracts. I don’t think I would sign a deal if it was Football 2020 but basketball 2025-2026. Plus they would probably only use this leverage for P5 games, not AAC games.

What movement are you talking about? UConn is leaving July 1, 2020. Aresco has said publicly that they cannot keep their football here, and that the TV contract won't be affected.
What else is there to do? UConn will likely struggle to put together a schedule next year, but I'm not convinced they are trying that hard.

Yeah there does not have to be any movement from the AAC, the topic of this thread is more why has there not been any movement from UConn for 2020. I would assume it is because they either think they are staying in the AAC for 2020, or canceling their program or going to FCS Indy and playing a bunch of FCS and D2 games next year as a transition year. They are out of time for finding 8 FBS games for next season. Just surprised we have not heard anything from UConn on football games for next year.

The Pound Puppies are on their own.
Oh, we are counting the days even more than you all are. We go from a mid-major hoop conference back to a high-major hoop conference and we also get to wash some of the “G5” stink off of us.

Conf is waiting on rule change for CCG
My gut tells me AAC gonna needs 12th FB school
ESPN located in Conn
I be asking ?, Why Conn could not get same deal as Navy
Because the only value UConn has is in basketball, and they took that to the Big East.
UConn does not equal Navy in football, lol. Even other G4 conferences don't want UConn football.
And you keep saying the AAC needs a 12th school. No, if they don't get a waiver, they will likely play an unbalanced division schedule with 11.

The AAC doesnt need a 12th school. The waiver being requested is to have a CCG without divisions (the top two teams at the end of the season would meet in the CCG like the Big12 does). Its very unlikely we will get such a waiver. However, the ability to sponsor a CCG with uneven divisions is allowed and we will be given a waiver to aid in the scheduling issues inherent in uneven divisions (same waiver the NCAA gave the MAC and CUSA when they were faced with a similar issue).

RE: Is UConn going to be officially out next year for football?
Let's just say the NCAA requires a 12th game for a championship game. If we needed a football only there are a lot of better choices not even looking at the MWC or BYU.
I'd take Southern Miss, Marshall, ODU, App State, UAB, etc football only before we need UConn football. App State is getting more interesting. UConn is in an uphill battle with their recruiting location, college football interest, and quality of play.

Agreed. I would take Georgia State over UConn in football as well due to media market and recruiting potential. Without basketball, UConn brings no value to the AAC.

I would select the school ESPN designates with the highest payout.

I will go so far as to say that I am confident that, if "A 12th Team is needed," that the AAC will be given a 1-year waiver for the 2020 CCG while a replacement is sought. That's an NCAA matter, not an ESPN matter. It will be easy to make the case that the AAC needs one year since the matter is not yet decided. If anything, ESPN will be on the AAC's side (of allowing a CCG under a 1-year-waiver) because THEY (ESPN) needs the content.
UConn will not be in the conference come July 1, 2020. That's it. Period. It's a nice, clean break. The AAC will not owe UConn any favors, nor will UConn owe the AAC anything.
So let it go. UConn can figure out their own predicament. Why do you care if they are playing 3 FBS teams, 8 FCS teams, and one D2 team? I don't.

E$PN is definitely the key player in all this. None of the schools on your list ticks off the key criteria, especially market size and excellence across FB & MBB. ODU is a "maybe" for non-FB - but what would they do with their FB program? Probably a deal buster for ODU.
VCU for men's basketball and all non-FB sports is a no-brainer. That would be step 1, and should be taken as soon as possible if they're interested. Adding a FB school is something that could be done in a few months or so. Some way that a deadline of June 30th may be operative for the MWC.
Word is that some good MWC schools have expressed interest in joining the AAC. Question is: Would they be willing to do it for FB only?

Hell, they might win 6 or 7 games against that schedule. Would be a pretty good season for UConn by recent standards.

It only matters to UCONN what they do. We are not in any bind.

CSU and SDSU should be given all sports adds if they want. Both are good institutional fits.

Beat me to it. Well said. My lord I can’t wait to be rid of these UConn fans. When you take UConn out of the league power rankings we are equals too the ACC.
Enjoy your flights to the your old regional rivals of the nostalgic big east. . . Ya know Marquette, DePaul, creighton, butler
I have no issue with UConn fans. They are a basketball school.
We had a 4-whatever basketball team take the court. They have a right to complain about the hoops program.
UConn FB is a similar disaster zone to last season in Tulane hoops but that fire has been ongoing.
Marquette and Butler are strong teams. Creighton have a ton of fans. DePaul is the only basket case in the Big East.
