What type of seats would you replace the metal ones with?
Preferred Seating in Indianapolis has The Tuf Seat.
They are chair back seats that can be retro-fitted
to bleachers. Available in a lot of colors and affordable. Its what BYU has in their stadium.
Seat backs?!?!
Back in the day we cushioned the concrete we sat on with snow. We walked upstairs both ways to the concession stands. You peed off the top row and if you were lucky, you didn't get blow back of yellow ice.
snowflakes
smh
Sat on the muddy hill in the SE corner of the GB, before the seating was put in. Made for some good
sliding contests.

Good times-I made it out onto the field through the break in the wall one particularly muddy night.

More like a bottle of Strawberry Hill smuggled in under your jacket or a bota wineskin with Yukon Jack. No cardboard, but maybe a running start and surf it down the hill.

Mateus for me, solely due to the weird size and shape of the bottle made it less detectable. I forgot about using cardboard, but you’re right, we did!

The press tower/suites/stadium club/ holds just under 1100...
Am not sure if that number is incorporated into total seating capacity of the GB...
It probably is... And every suite is probably a sell out because they are donor sponsored... So a late November crowd with hand countable people still rings 11,000 because season tix+ suites+ band + students... Haha. I've seen an NIU Crowd that wrecks Kent or EMU and they only call it 8,000.
I think 25,000 is a great crowd, my only point was that before expanding capacity the GB would need to average that number for entire season and have more frequent sell outs (like U Miami game) and I know that's hard as weather turns worse and in seasons like this one where we are stuck with 2 mid week games in November. But bottom line investing in expansion in my opinion is a waste of limited funds, instead let's continue to improve the current experience for those that actually attend, starting with the damn metal benches, better entertainment during TV timeouts, better contests, improved lighting and sound system, etc.....
Need to address attendance issues for later season/midweek games.
Agreed, not sure what the solutions are but until we see better attendance any other plans for the GB and change in conference are all just pipe dreams
More capacity is not what is needed. What is needed is better use of the capacity we have. Group seating options in special locations (towers, end zones) with catered snacks and drinks etc similar to what the Hens and every other minor league baseball team does. I think a suite on a trailer truck that parks anywhere on campus we need it would be cool.

Unless the east side of the stadium is replaced, it needs a broadcast facility that can shoot the west side.Give the Glass Bowl and team its best look for
broadcast. The NE Corner of the GB can be particularly annoying. Really understates attendance.
I don't believe the upper deck will ever be replaced or expanded. We can't fill the seats we have and until we do on a regular basis, it won't happen. Ohio is graduating fewer high school seniors every year which also means fewer students.
As far as shooting the west side for TV, you can get relatively inexpensive HD cameras that would be mounted on a pole at the top of the east stands. Using cable or wifi, the picture would be sent to the press tower.
Ever...really? We're a Division I FBS University. If we're not investing in facilities every so often, we don't stand a chance. The east side upper deck needs to be renovated. Love the idea of putting a new upper deck over top of the last few rows of lower deck. Plus add a media facility where ESPN cameras can showcase the press box side.
Until GB is sold out on a regular basis, I doubt we would ever see replacement and expansion of the east side. Why increase to 30,000-40,000 when we can't average more than 25,000 a game in a season? Perfect conditions last Saturday for a season opening home game sells 25,000-a good size crowd but that's the best we can do? HC game last year against BGSU didn't even draw 25,000??? Clearly that's the peak we can expect from the Toledo area in the GB, and that is among top in the MAC. But until we sell out regularly (and recent history suggests that's not going to happen any time soon), expanding GB or moving to a better conference simply is not happening. We are what we are in terms of local support for Rockets football. I would rather replace every one of those stupid metal benches with actual stadium seating before ever expanding the capacity in the GB.
Right on, lets first replace those metal benches and I believe the wooden the ones on the west side with chairs. For example, there is a high school here in the greater Dayton area (Miamisburg) who have a brand new stadium, that's seats 5000. All the seats are chair backs purchased from the Daytona Speedway when the speedway under went renovations. If UT is not able to put in new seats, perhaps they can go out and search for pro or college stadiums trying to rid themselves of their existing seats. Anything better then what UT has now. As far as the east stands are concern, I would like UT built on the existing bottom level stone and take it further up and get rid of the metal stands all together.

Wooden ones?
BTW, Michigan and Ohio State have mostly aluminum bench seats.
BYU's stadium is not all tuf seats... now way. Unless they are shiney silver.
It's a nice addition for the middle 30 yards for donor seating... no entire place has backs but NFL stadiums. And some of those even have aluminum benches. And what about Fat people? My dad isn't even that big, 6'2 230, and he cant get in and out of Walleye seats.

FAU's is all chair back seats except for the party deck.

And it was built like that. It's so new and nice!! Ours was last renovated in like 1990? New chairs is very low on the list of priorities.. You can order a chair back if you are a season ticket holder. When you go to a game, you expect bench seats. Bring a cushion....
Light polls, and on field timeout entertainment should be first on the list.

I forgot all about that stuff. I used to buy that back in the day. I think I'd get it at an A&P store in west Toledo, but then they stopped carrying it. Can't recall what I switched to, but it must have been bad.

Agreed. If more capacity was the answer, everyone would be building larger stadiums. Besides, it would just be more empty seats during the November weekday games.

Not counting on it that is why I advocate shooting cams from East to West. Why feature the visiting team's sideline and visitor seating for telecast and streaming audiences?
Again the broadcast did a real nice job of featuring
BYU and their fans. Need to fix this.
