Mike pretty much killed it with his picks, I had dinner at Bistro Roca last night. I'd also throw in Black Cat Burrito and Basil's, the latter especially for Booneshine beers.

Which mountain are y'all going to?

Booneshine has better beer than AMB... can't wait for the new facility.

Agreed, I think they'll leave AMB in the dust once the new space gets finished. I stopped by a couple of weeks ago and it looks like it'll be a great place to hang this fall.

I’m a big fan of Black Cat.

Wife loves Peppers mostly for the best French Onion soup. I love their carrot cake.

Hate we can’t go skiing this year. Though it takes me way too long to recover these days. Went 5-6 days a week while in college.

Some of my favorites are Cafe Portifino's, Casa Rustica for Italian, Pepper's for sandwich & soup (Boone staple for 30+ years) , The Peddler for steaks, Mike's Inland Seafood is a lot better than you's expect that far away from the coast, The Rock for bar food with lot's of TV's, Black Cat Burrito for Mexican and my favorite dog & burger joint Hilltop Drive-In a mile or so west of downtown Boone on 321. I hear Capone's is surprisingly good for pizza.

Nice list. Made the decision to only drink Booneshine when in Boone since AMB sold out. Can't wait to go to the brewery when open.

Haven't been to Cobo but will have to try,

Also need to throw out:

Best restaurant in the world in a wal mart strip mall: Coyote Kitchen (ecletic tex-mex, really one of my favorites when i wanted to drive 3 miles)

you really have to go to Our Daily Bread for lunch one day. If you go to black cat burrito, let us know how it was. Just got bought by the folks that did Cobo and was closed for reno for several months, so we're all hoping they kept the menu/quality the same.

It’s amazing how many quality choices of food and drink they have in Boone these days, when I was a student in the late 80s, only one or two small bars, with Daniel Boone Inn and Makata considered the top restaurants, basically all you had were fast food restaurants.

If you are a big-timer like myself, you should try the Gamekeeper or the Artisanal in nearby Banner Elk. I would NOT take the entire family, but if you and the wife are able to get away, both are top notch. And both are more convenient than Boone if you are staying near Sugar or Beech.

Artisanal won't reopen until May :(.

Ballantyne, Black Cat is virtually the same as before. They cleaned up the inside and added a concrete bar top, a la Cobo. The menu is pretty much identical and they now have a full liquor license.

hopefully they didn't clean it up too much. A dive is supposed to look like a dive. Do you still get a toy as a placeholder? Can't live without that.

Have reservations at Peppervine (Artisanal owners new Charlotte restaurant) in a few weeks, so hopefully i can get my fix during Artisanals absurdly long closing period.

Pretty solid recommendations so far.

I'll second these:

Stuff that I like that haven't been listed:

Coffee: Espresso News
Fancy Food: Vidalia
Exotic Food: Mint (Indian)

Capone's is better than Carolina Pizza Co. imo, but they focus more on Chicago style so that's a personal preference thing. Also, Taqueria El Paso blows the other Mexican restaurants in town out of the water. Sabeing has some fantastic Pho if you're into that kind of thing. Sunrise Grill is amazing at breakfast but there's usually a pretty heavy wait.

Not a fan of Cardinal at all. Best burger in Boone is easily Comebackshack though. I am a pretty big fan of them if you couldn't tell.
