I'll second these:

Sushi: Cobo
Pizza: Carolina Pizza Co.
Burger: Cardinal
Burrito: Black Cat
Sammy/Soup: Our Daily Bread
Wings: Tapp Room
TexMex: Coyote Kitchen
Beer: Booneshine
Fastfood: Comeback Shack
Bar: Saloon
BBQ: Woodlands
Southern Food: Proper

Stuff that I like that haven't been listed:

Coffee: Espresso News
Fancy Food: Vidalia
Exotic Food: Mint (Indian)
Sweets: Stickboy
Food in general: The Local

I've been to Vidalia 2 or 3 times over the years. Very underwhelming, in my opinion. Not that it's a bad thing, but you have to leave Boone for "fancy." The 15 minute drive to Blowing Rock will cover fancy. I suggest Gamekeeper or Storie Street, but there's a dozen others that are just as good. Same for the 20 minute drive to Banner Elk, just fewer options.

A Card burger with come back sauce would be a game changer.

I had a Cardinal double last night. The burger itself is amazing, but they literally just throw the lettuce on the bottom and it spills out.

There's a BBQ place coming to downtown Boone soon, with rooftop seating and night hours. It was in one of the recent papers.

Capone's blows Carolina Pizza out of the water. Carolina Pizza has cheap PBR and is downtown. Capone's left downtown, and is still kicking. That should tell you something.

Comeback and Cardinal both have a place in my heart. It's simple, if you want a beer, you go to Cardinal.

We were in Blowing Rock a few weeks ago and went to The Speckled Trout. It was really good. The new ownership is hitting it out of the park!

Can't find any info on the new BBQ joint. Sounds awesome. Somebody please fill us in.

It is interesting to me that nobody has recommended Gideon Ridge for the "high falootin" diners. Gamekeeper is a neat place for tourists, but Joe Beef in Montreal ruined exotic meat establishments for me in an incredible I must go back to Montreal way. Try Gideon Ridge sometime if you can find a reservation.

*edit* I had the worse halibut in my life at Gamekeeper.

I hear Capone's is surprisingly good for pizza.
Ditto, you hit my favorites in one post and yes, Capone's is good.

It is fascinating to see why so many establishments that I don't find worthy of my time or money are somehow still in business and favorites of others. Let us look at this as an opportunity to judge each other... I mean... appreciate each other..... or.... wait

Not a big fan of Chicago style, but I'm gonna give it a shot next time in town. The pizza offerings just haven't been the same since Solliceto's closed.

Anyone who recommends The Peddler can't be trusted. If you can't cook a steak better than that local chain then you don't belong in the kitchen... or online making dining recommendations.

Amen.

I'd rather cook my steak on the stove top than go to the peddler.

I went to high school with Emily, she's really cool, too. I saw they've stepped up their beverage options and live music. Seems like a cool place to go.

It was awesome. The food was outstanding with a good beer selection. The decor is fresh and staff was very friendly. It was cold that day, so we did not get to enjoy the porch, but look forward to having drinks out there this summer. Go check it out!

Has anyone ever had legitimate Lexington Style Q west of 77? I love it as much as anyone but it does not travel out of the region.

Isn't Shelby known for good old Lexington style places? Bridges?

The NC BBQ trail definitely thins out west of I-77

Shelby is the exception. Alston Bridges & Red Bridges. That being said, the new place in Boone probably won’t be a chopped tray with hush puppy joint which is my kinda place.
