Comment doesn't make sense nor does it add anything to the discussion.

That summarizes your posting contributions on anything App St. I couldn't have said it better myself. How is ECUs DC doing? Have you spent more years in Greenville than me? You must be qualified to weigh in then.

Your use of Drink not being a evaluator or defensive coaching talent is comical, who do you think he schemes against every week?

The point is that you justify the dismissing of others opinions because they aren't DC's. Your argument wasn't "your opinion doesn't matter because you don't analyze defenses, coach defense, or coach football". Thus, your argument of fans not being a DC, thus not being allowed to have an opinion, is invalid.

I spent 3 years in Greenville, 17 years about 35 - 45 minutes from Boone, depending on 2 lane versus 4 lane, trucks/campers/RV you are stuck behind, and ice that usually hits as you round the 4th turn from Blowing Rock.

If you want to make an argument to invalidate quite a few peoples opinion, not just mine, perhaps you should evaluate your structure. You've yet to say why Roof will be a good hire considering the state of the program and Roof's history as a coach. Why will he be good for recruiting? Why will he be good for App State? Aside from having the Georgia connection, but not knowing the alternatives available to Drink, this doesn't jump out as a quality coach.

Many others have voiced this same opinion of Roof and concerns since he was even mentioned as a possibility. Using the fact that I attended ECU instead of staying down the road from my parents as a reason to bolster your opinion that Roof is a quality coach doesn't make sense.

I'd trust Georgia Southern fan's opinions of this guy considering they should have defeated him while he was at Georgia Tech. As residents of Georgia, they are also privy to the general feeling around the program at that time.

Do your fingers ever get tired?

Unless Roof some how learns how to coach and scheme a 3-4 defense, this is a terrible, terrible hire. Nate Woody was a solid defensive coach at Wofford for quite some time prior to making the move to App. No comparison to be made here.

So are you saying people didn't question the Nate Woody hire and switch to 3-4 just like you are here with Roof?

Woody's resume wasn't a journey man type that Roof has but he also wasn't being highly sought after by most schools during the 4-3 era. Roof used a 3-4 at Minnesota and has tons of experience coaching at multiple levels and positions. I will trust in Drink until proven otherwise and not some halfway ECU fanboy.

Considering I lived in the area around Boone for a longer period of time than you

Do you think you know me or something? Is that your argument then? How is Houston's DC hire, any comments on that one or did he mess up too. What kind of defensive calls will you make for App this season?

Everyone should chill out, it's not like he has already lost to Liberty or something.

I went back and read the Liberty thread on the Cabin the other night. Fun times.

I keep it bookmarked for a variety of reasons, it is humbling in nature and yet also pure comedic gold all at the same time.

I think Satts house might finally make it to market....

You guys return most starters from the 6th ranked defense in the country last year. It would be really hard to screw this up. The question becomes a couple years from now when players graduate...what happens then?

That is basically why this hire doesn't scare me, Roof has proven he knows football and has made defenses better in many cases where one didn't exist previously. Some of our fanbase act like this guy wears Ga South underwear or something. He has to go quite the opposite direction to blow this how bad some are thinking.

RE: App State hires Ted Roof as DC
See that's the thing. Having diarrhea once a day is better than 3 a day, but it's sure as heck better not to have it at all. Watching that crap show at GT was enough for me. We'd joke about "Black Watch" (what GT defense was called when he played there) really meant there was a shadow on the field where a defender should have been. Shoot, even Tyson Summers was in the midst of winning precisely 2 games in 12 tries put up 24 points on this guy, which is slightly more than he averaged over the course of his entire coaching career. He didn't even make it to 24 for most of his 2017 season...

I don't think Roof will blow it up, but I do think it'll be a noticeable step down. What Woody did this year on offense was very noticeably better than what Roof did with the very same players. His resume doesn't say "proven" to me, it says the door won't finish closing from when he first got there. Before I get flamed by GS for supporting App State, I'm merely sharing what I've personally witnessed and know about the guy. I was at most of the games during his 2nd tenure and some of his first. His stint at Auburn was camouflaged by a very stout offense.

Again, it could work out.

I hope it does but our 2022 schedule is not for the faint of heart. By that time we will be fully immersed in the Drink. That will be the year we will know what kinda hires we have made.

Risky.

There's nothing wrong with running a 4-3 if you are built for it. Lots of teams win with a 4-3 I know we did for a long time. Personally I've always liked the 4-2-5 but I have no real complaints about the 3-4 we are currently running. Better to let the coach run what he knows than try to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Or better yet, hire a coach who runs the same successful D you're already built for.

I grew up a Tech fan and am in disbelief that y'all hired Ted Roof. My Dad's (Tech alum) reaction today was, "No they didn't. Why would they do that? They can do so much better." I have nothing bad to say about the man, but I have to agree with my father. I don't care what Roof's resume says, App can do much better than this.

If you're referring to the rumors from several weeks ago, then nope.

If you're referring to something newer than that, this is the first I've heard of it.

It's what I read from Georgia Tech's beat writer. I see it's been recanted some time after. Didn't catch the retraction piece.

Things would have to be epic bad your right for him to screw that d up. I feel you guys could have done better personally though. Proceed with caution with roof. The good thing is he usually doesn’t stay long though so you guys have that going.

Ted Roof has held up a crystal football as DC, the position he has been hired for.

Cam Newton isn't coming to Boone. Or indeed anywhere else on the map Roof has coached as a DC not named "Auburn".
Roof was awful at Auburn. Nick Fairley and company only made him look decent.
