RE: Serious Question: If Mike Norvell leaves should we consider kiffin!!!!
Lane Kiffin would be good. He can recruit and coach and if hired, I would be sure that his first year buyout would be high enough to ensure he will be here at least 2 years.

The facts to me as I look at them are this -- he did terrible in the NFL – I sum that up as being young and inexperienced. He did a decent job at UT, not so well at USC. I do think he may have inherited some issues when he took the USC job, but not sure.

So, he works his way back and becomes a coordinator for Alabama. I have to admit he turned the Tide’s offense into one that could keep up with the jones. Won one title and if he and Saban would not have overreacted to each other, would have probably won another last year with the Tide. In 2014, Kiffin was a finalist for the Broyles Award, given annually to the nation's top college football assistant coach

If we base this on his resume for the last couple of years, I would say heck yeah. We are not a power 5 yet, but a good program heading in the right direction. Looking at it like this, “we hire the offensive coordinator who has recently won one title, and took his team to another championship game”. Looks and sounds the part to me. Georgia did it on the defensive side and I would think we can be as smart as them.

My restraints are on his ethics and morals, has he grown up and matured or could he have ethics issues. Not sure if he ever warranted the perception of bad ethics or morals, just a lot of media like to dirty him up for some reason.

Not my decision, but will support whoever we put on the sidelines. But sure would love to keep CMN one more year, or two, or three, or etc.…

When he took over USC, they were in hot water from Pete Carrol's years. Carrol pulled a Calipari on them...and left before the NCAA could pimp slap him.
Of NCAA violations, Kiffin has pulled a few minor violations. I think his time with Nick Saban might have humbled him...I think he appreciates being a head coach more after that experience.
The man can recruit like no one's business...and he knows how to put the pieces of an offense together to work as a whole.
I'd be pretty stoked if we ever made that hire.

Who said they have to be coeds. Besides it would piss off UT to no end. Which is nice.

Maybe he needs to sit in my seats this Saturday. I’m 18 rows up from the Pom Pon squad right in front of me.

I'm on board with Kiffin. The bottom line is that Memphis has become a really attractive job....we won't have any problem with good candidates.

due to our loss to UCF...they have a hard time taking us seriously in the top 25 polls.
Hiring Kiffin would go a long way to quelling that.
I think he could do for us..what O'Leary and Sumlin did for UCF and Houston respectively...get us to a major bowl.

He will have had some time off to unwind and may be interesting in getting back into a non stressful situation. Maybe not at a major P5 school and the stress that came with it. But could be interested in staying in coaching without all the stress and bright lights focused on everything he does.

And you guys said my post was stupid.

NEVER said he would take the job. Just that we should offer if Norvell stays another year or two.

He retired this year to get away from the pressures of big time P5 football. He is still in his mid to late 50s.

By 60 he could be looking for something to stay involved in football. If my some miracle we could convince him to take the job we know he would not be using us as a stepping stone. For if he wanted to get back into the P5 level job he could pick which ever team he wanted before taking the job.

IF and it is a BIG IF you could talk him into take the job you would be all but guaranteed five years out of him and he would be able to train his successor.

Any up and coming coach you choose will be here just two or three years before being hired away. Or you will have to go with a retread which has been fired several times for not getting job done.

Kiffin and Jones both would kill it at Memphis. They just happen to picked the coaches graveyard in East Tennessee on bad advice.

Like I just heard about Kiffin on a sportstalk show in Knoxville: A pretty decent gameday coach but I'd worry about what he does the other 6 days of the week!

Kiffin? No. He wouldn't have to turn off his car for the duration he would be the coach.

I'd rather have Bruce Pearl coach football than Kiffin.

Not a bad choice, he is offensive line and run game coordinator. Great recruiter, has high school, college and NFL experience.

We should absolutely consider him. He’s done a good job at FAU. He’s good at calling plays.

Coach Mac from Florida would be ideal

The FL Gator deal was bizarre

Dude can coach! He WON the SEC East the last 2 years.

RE: Serious Question: If Mike Norvell leaves should we consider kiffin!!!!
If we can't keep Norvell, I want a young over achiever, as we have gone that route recently as it has worked.

If we don't do that, I would actually wonder if it's fair to give a shake to our current OC Dickey, he deserves a chance to be the head guy. Again, I'm not sure it's the correct move, but he deserves serious consideration. I would also consider promoting from within on Ball as well.

I'd order it:

1. Young stud coach on the way up (Fuentes / Norvell plan)
2. Promote from within (Dickey / Ball) or look at a recent Fuentes staff member.
3. Retread, and while I would accept Kiffin, he is not the top name.

That's my take, your mileage may vary.
