RE: 4-star TE Josh Whyle Stays Home, Commits to UC
Some journalist needs to do an exposè on the recruiting analysts and ask them if they have watched the recruits, evaluated them by objective standards, and followed their progress. Or if they just pull stuff out of their ass, keep an eye out for offers from big schools, and throw **** up to see if it sticks.
I'd read that article.

I'd like to know how many recruits have been rated after not being seen in person.

Are there any rating services that aren't also owned by other, larger media enterprises? It might make this difficult.

Hawkins feels like the one that could break the whole recruiting thing wide open. If he commits to UC I'd love to know what would go through Urban Meyer's head. Or for that matter the coaches at MSU, UK, UL etc.
It seems like there is enough talent in Cincy to field a team good enough to win the AAC with just local players. That's the major difference that I see between UC and a program like Boise State. Obviously BSU has access to a ton of talent in California, but that's nothing like having so much D1 talent literally in your backyard.
Fickell just feels so different than our previous three successful coaches. Fickell seems like ALL coach and NO corporate ladder climbing ass kisser. I don;t expect him to end his career here, but I think he'll be here lnger than 4 years and he'll build something special in the process.
Fickell is gone at the first site of a big $ contract at an attractive school.

Why? He is paid well (Sure others will pay more). He has had other chances and didn't want to uproot his family. He has 6 school age children and all his family is in Ohio and while many coaches talk about not leaving, he seemed genuine about not wanting to job hop and keep uprooting his kids.
He is less than 2 hours away from the rest of the family and uprooting kids
is difficult, especially when it is 6 of them. He'd leave for O$U without thinking. Maybe he'd consider Michigan State, but I'm not 100% sure. West Virginia could be a possibility as well. Maybe Notre Dame. UK/Louisville, probably not. And if he is hopping to one of them, that means he has done very well here.
I can't imagine him uprooting his family and leaving the close proximity to the rest to go to Indiana, Purdue, etc. It would take a top program to come calling and even then, who knows, he may be genuine about not trying to uproot the kids, even if it was double the pay and going to a huge named school. He doesn't seem to be the guy with the huge ego that would need $5 million and leave for Missouri, etc. Could be wrong, but not the impression I get from him and his wife, in which family is so important to them.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
(although most would agree that last word should be beer-holder)
I just want to win big again so that we have to worry about where the head coach is going to be next.
The assistants on this staff clearly believe they are attaching themselves to a rocket that's about to launch.

HCLF doesn't seem like the kind of parent to whip his kids into new school systems. He's here for 4 years..

I recall reading when he was pursued by some MAC schools, but never really went after them. Also had a chance a few years ago to go to Notre Dame with a bigger role and pay and turned that down. He said when he was hired that none of the situations made sense for him to uproot his family, but Cincy is the perfect place for him and his family.

And from the sounds of it, they're attracted to the Catholic schools here. They'd be hard-pressed to find a city with a better Catholic school selection than Cincinnati. Last time I checked, only St. Louis has a higher number of Catholic schools per capita.

So he hasn't coached a single game here yet...and some are concerned about him leaving for a bigger job. If true, as an old friend once said, the quality of our problems has improved considerably.

RE: 4-star TE Josh Whyle Stays Home, Commits to UC
I would imagine his ultimate goal is to someday coach Ohio State. If he does as well as I think he is going to do here, he will have a great chance to step into that job when Urban Meyer leaves. I think taking a job at a low-level P5 could actually be detrimental to his long-term goals, despite the potential pay raise. It's a lot easier to win 10 games at UC than it is at Purdue or Kentucky. I'm not going to worry until a job like Ohio State, Michigan State, or Notre Dame opens up.

Sad, but true. Worst case scenario - UC wins 9 or 10 games and a bowl game, Notre Dame has a another bad year, and another UC coach leaves for his "dream job".
Although I would take UC winning 9 or 10 games and a bowl game.

If/When Notre Dame opens up next year I don't see them going back to the Cincinnati well. Even if Fickell went 12-0 I think they would want a bigger, proven name. As to Michigan State, I always heard Pat Narduzzi is the heir apparent when MD leaves. I have to imagine even if things go sour for a second year in East Lansing would let him go out on his own graces the following year or two.

I mean, if stability becomes a concern we can always call up the Old Pine Box. Assuming he doesn't become the governor of Alabama I'm sure he'd welcome a lifetime appointment here.

As others have mentioned, I don't think LF would be on either Sparty or Domer radar after one year. I also agree that there's a very good chance, if he thinks he has the support to maintain success, that he'll stick with Cincy for 4-6 years and wait for the OSU job to open up.
