RE: Buffalo drops four sports
Getting a sport fully endowed is no small task. KSU's golf programs are pretty much fully endowed at this point, but that took years of serious fundraising work (and the most incredible annual golf outing you could imagine: it's like a 12 hour golf festival). KSU baseball has been in the process of becoming fully endowed but that is still incomplete I believe. It is not easy even when you have lots of good donors. When sports get cut, a bunch of alums will try to endow the programs, but it is never as simple as that. The time to start a program's endowment is long before the ax falls. Very difficult to do it after the decisions have been made and trying to involve the courts is probably a further waste of money. The message is that if you have a sport at your U you want to be safe, contribute early and often.

What programs are endowed and at what level at other MAC schools? I have no idea.

That's quite true ... like so many ideas that people raise, it's substantially easier said than done.
