That being said, This Tiger team simply didn't have enough depth, and that lack of depth was evident as the season trudged on.
The lack of depth is mainly attributed to Tubby's inability to recruit players able and willing to provide sufficient productivity or inability to maximize their talent. Tubby has another opportunity to find better players for the upcoming season and I hope he does it.
We had depth the previous 7 years and never made a sweet 16. Were you making posts about coaching them up back then?
Your non sequitur notwithstanding, the answer is seldom. Unlike Tubby, Opie was not lauded for his "coaching up" ability. Tubby was suppose to be a refreshing change in coaching ability. Instead, we experienced a late season swoon and season ending 30+ blowouts and now we see little indication that he can recruit at a high level.
To date, we have discovered that Tubby cannot recruit and he cannot coach. Nevertheless, I hope he turns it around and I will support him through attendance and season tickets as time and means permit.
In one year you figured out all that? You must be a genius

Josh was shown the door for a reason. If Tubby doesn't produce, he'll be replaced. This is not a difficult program to recruit and win.
I agree. I just don't get all the Josh lovers that are all over Tubby. Sounds like an agenda to me.
That's exactly what it is an agenda.

Many in Memphis believe it. Not as many outside of Memphis. Too much drama from fans.
Too much drama from the miserables who are too grandiose and delusional to call themselves fans. They loved Josh because he kissed their miserable azzes.

Just the one year - 2008.
Three years of Elite 8s still on the book.
Officially, we still have the regular season loss to Tennessee from 07-08 too.

Just get to the dance every year, anything can happen. And if you make a run everything will work out.
I'd take him in at Memphis in a minute.

NCAA selective enforcement. Others have gotten away with more than what they accused Memphis of.

You are without a doubt the most ignorant, arrogant and annoying poster I can recall since this forum started in the mid90's? Not even close. Tigerscane was a wordsmith compared to you.

No, the lack of depth is attributed to the prior staff and its inability to maintain a roster. Tubby was handed a _hit sandwich, which some of you are confusing with steak. The Lawson situation is obviously a difficult one and the idea of recruiting quality depth in late April and May is ridiculous. Josh left behind a cancerous situation for the new coach to inherit, and there weren't enough graduate transfers to remedy it.
Spot on.

You do realize that we are only about two weeks out from the same time period last year in which Tubby was hired and Memphis is still in dire need of additional experienced depth.
Is he going to miraculously get "good" players this April when many here said it was impossible to get that same kind of player last April?
Can't have it both ways.

@mgiannotto Let's just say I don't think there's anything imminent on the recruiting front at the moment.

2 different animals. Last year, was a transition year for which he deserves a pass.
This year, he's had a full year to evaluate and recruit to Memphis. Plenty of pieces still to fall before next season. No pass this year. Let's judge whether we have an improved product on the court in the Fall.

Sure, that's why there were coaches signing players who contributed up until last August.
Look, it's all an excuse - they did the bare minimum last year. It's obvious to anyone who doesn't want to bury their head in blue colored sand.
Hopefully we're not making excuses at the end of this summer too.

It's debatable how easy it is to recruit and win at Memphis. However, others have done it in the past. I don't think the fans have anything to do with how well a coach does or how good his players are.

I get the feeling we will be scrambling for players just like last year.
Reminiscent of the opening scene in the movie "Summer School."
