Dan Patrick and his boys are in Houston for the Super Bowl and were at the UH/UCF game to satisfy a bet the Danettes lost. They had to dress as cheerleaders and lead a cheer at a college bball game. IMO they got off easy because they got to do it at Houston.
Now I know UH's basketball attendance has been called out plenty on this board, but after watching the above video I feel compelled to post. Watching that video, and quite frankly any televised game at Hoffheinz, is embarrassing. It would be really great if you guys could pull yourselves together down there. This league NEEDS you.
I know pigskin is King down there, even bigger than that I'm sure. I get it. But you're telling me that in a metro of over 6 million people, your athletic department can only manage to get ~1,000 people in the building for a game featuring two of the better teams in the conference?? The reported attendance was 3,681 but we all know actual is never close to what's reported.
Now I know many of us Cincy fans were pretty unbearable when this league was born, but I think it's safe to assume that most of you can empathize with how we felt having worked so hard to get where we were only to have the rug pulled out from under us. We have A LOT of pride in our city and University. Not just our football or basketball or baseball teams. Your basketball team is 16-7 (7-4), has one of the most noteworthy coaches in our league, and is apart of a program that has a pretty rich history of success. We need you guys...The American Athletic Conference needs you guys to help carry the torch of this league. A good start would be showing up and supporting your university. And so I plead to all Cougar fans:
Come the f*** on!
i was avoiding this thread but why the hell not, nothing else is happening here
1) we are 16-7 (7-4) ...and not project to make an another at-large for the 30th consecutive year.
1b) it was ucf (no offense but talking bball national media), we were eliminated from the tourney as an atlarge, and we had lost 3 of our last 4
2) our attendance is actually much improving...its not spiking improving but you can definitely see growth, i could show you games from 4-5 years ago when it was empty
2b) we haven't had smu spike attendance improvement because we havent had any reason to have that kind of spike...we arent making the tourney, our recruiting classes are mostly jucos, we arent being ranked top 25, the AAC isnt full of top 10 teams..smu had a reason to hyped up, they were top 25, they were recruiting elitely, larry brown etc..
- its not like we dont have fans, its that our fans dont have any remote reason to be excite about basketball..nits wont excite people in a city like houston
as far as from a league perspective, im not worried about houstons attendance hurting the league...the bad thing about being a city thing, is also the good thing, if we become nationally note worthy they will come.
im more worried about getting elite houston kids to commit to houston..the rest will take care of itself
