March Madness is heating up early this season. For the first time ever, the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Selection Committee will offer teams and fans an in-season look at the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship bracket. NCAA Men’s Basketball Chair Mark Hollis will be in studio for the reveal of the nation’s top 16 seeds, identifying the top-four teams in each region as they stand on Feb. 11. CBS Sports and Turner Sports will present NCAA MARCH MADNESS BRACKET PREVIEW, airing Saturday, Feb. 11 at 12:30 PM, ET on CBS.
Leading off the show, the bracket with the Committee’s top 16 seeds as of Feb. 11 will be revealed. Hollis, along with host Greg Gumbel and analysts Clark Kellogg and Seth Davis, will discuss the selection and seeding process as well as the reasoning behind the Committee’s first-ever in-season bracket preview.
Noted bracketologist Jerry Palm also will join Gumbel, Kellogg and Davis later in the show to project out the entire 68 team bracket, analyze the field, discuss bubble teams and highlight key story lines heading into March.
“We are excited about giving the fans a glimpse to what the men’s basketball committee is thinking at this point of the season, and creating a buzz as we look towards Selection Sunday,” said Mark Hollis, the director of athletics at Michigan State University and chair of this year’s committee. “It’s important to recognize after this list has been released, there is still a significant portion of the regular season to be played and every league must stage its conference tournament. There’s potential for quite a bit of movement until we do it for real March 12, but this early peek will give everyone insight as to where the committee stands as we hit the stretch run of the regular season.”

Win Thursday and UC should be 22-2 on that date. Game at SMU is the next day.

I really don't like this idea. Part of the joy of the Selection Show is that you don't have any indication beforehand who is going to be in.
Also it only sets teams (and the kids on them) up for failure. Imagine the humiliation the first time a team is ranked in the "top 16" and then collapses and fails to make the tournament.

Anyone with a pulse can get at least 13-14 of the teams correct so this show isn't really a revelation. They are looking to cash in on the Football Playoff announcement shows.

Exactly, on February 11th all 16 teams will essentially be locks to make the tournament. Just a quest for viewers/ratings.

I disagree because:
A - I don't recall a time where any of the top 16 seeded teams in the tournament were nervous about missing the dance on Selection Sunday.
B - We already rank the top 25 teams on a weekly basis, so I don't see how it would be any more embarrassing to have a late-season collapse.
This is a great idea that college hoops junkies like myself will eat up. It gets the discussion going earlier and will attract more attention to the sport.

This is just B.S. so the talking heads have something to talk about. It doesn't mean anything come selection Sunday.

Very little chance of a top 16 seed falling out of the tournament. And seeds will change dramatically in the last 4 weeks but will probably shuffle between the top 16.
Trying to create drama when it is not there.

I hate this idea. System is great. I live that they have to evaluate when the season is over (almost over when they start I guess). It gives a complete picture. I hate to see prior evaluation sway them. This one poll probably won't matter too much but to me this says we may be heading in a direction when we see a lot of this and that bothers me.

I can tell you exactly how the show will go:
1) The discussion of the "Top 16" teams will take about 10 minutes.
2) Commercials and "promos" will make up the other 50 minutes.

UC’s win last night didn't help them at all in the computer models.
RPI – 15
Kenpom – 20
BPI – 17
Sagarin – 17
Gonna be very disappointing if they don’t make one of the top 4 seeds in this selection show on Saturday.

Yes it did....because if they had lost...they would have dropped significantly...

on the flip slide, UCF losing to UC on the road and their RPI rose back into the top 100. Making UC's record vs Top 100 teams 8-2 . The nature of computer polls .

someone mentioned that people were wanting to cash in on the football playoff announcements...
Were there people who actually watched any of those except maybe the last one?
As QSECOFR stated.. when they spend the whole time with commercials I find myself getting the info first on twitter so I never watch any..

Not going to rise in the computers every game. UC has pretty well settled in on Kenpom/BPI/Sagarin. I suspect they'll be in the 15-20 range most the rest of the season.
If UC keeps winning they'll likely rise in the RPI.

We are at the point in the season that winning and increasing winning percentage just offsets playing mediocre opponents.
Win against SMU and it will jump a bit. Other than that weighted road game against a good squad, it's not going to go up much from here on out. Just not much room to go up with the statistical gaps between teams at the top.
Off topic but for fun I used the RPI forecaster tool on LiveRPI...you can change outcomes to see the impact to RPI...had UC beaten R.I. we'd be up to 6th right now.

In your mind, who gets the nod: 18-6 with sos of 9 or 22-2 with sos of 72.

Obviously, I know who the second team is. But I'd have to know who the wins and losses are to make an actual legitimate comparison.
Without knowing that though, 60 SOS spots isn't enough to make up losing 4 extra games. That's a lot. It's us and I don't think it's close.

Agree knowing good wins and bad losses matter (UC has lost to a top 10 and top 38 team in RPI, on the road and neutral). Knowing other metrics helps too. UC will get credit for the good out of conference schedule they played, including a pair of tough road trips (Which a few teams in the discussion will not have). SOS of 72 coming out of our conference isn't too bad. There are teams in power conferences that played OOC schedules ranked in the 300s that will get penalized. I'd give UC the nod for sure as 6 losses vs 2 is a big deal and the SOS while different, doesn't justify making up for 4 losses. But the other metrics and bad losses and good wins matter.
