Absolutely amazing run and I'm pulling for them as all of us should. Huge punch in the mouth to all the majors.

Game will be played at 1 today. Strange time for a national title game, but maybe more bad weather is expected later?
In any case, the weather postponement last night allows Beckwith to potentially start today with an extra day of rest under his belt. Definitely a positive development for the Chanticleers.

There have been a lot of mistakes made and poor execution, particularly by Zona. I can't pull for Arizona because of Robby Medel. After Remillard slid for the infield single in GM1, and then was forced out on the double-play, they panned Zona's dugout and you could see Medel call Remillard a b**** and mock his exuberance (after being called safe at first). I'm not a huge fan of all of their dugout antics, but that really irritated me.
Watching Coastal gives me great hope for UNCW. The margin b/w Coastal and UNCW isn't significant. Perhaps I'm wrong.

My initial thought was that the start time is a reflection of the sports overall popularity.

6th inning and still no score. 1 run might win it for either side.

looks like the crowd is still good though based off ESPN's pictures of it. They made the game free and most of the 14,000 swimming fans there for the olympic trials walked on over.

Rare defensive miscue by Arizona gives Coastal 2 runs! Nice.

Zona's "U of A!" chant was getting pretty damn annoying all game long. Nice to hear some silence from their side of things.

Coastal is just 11 defensive outs away from a national title. Pretty unbelievable.

One of the reasons UNCW needs to focus on facilities for Baseball. Not many sports where a mid-major can win an NCAA Championship.

RE: NCAA Regionals
One thing I noticed when we played South Carolina is that we rarely bunted or attempted to steal a base. Far too conservative to beat the odds. Coastal is doing anything they can to advance runners and score.

It's completely understandable and easy to say we should have done that in hindsight. But remember, South Carolina proved more than capable of putting up runs in bunches, so playing "small ball" against them, unlike a low-scoring team like Arizona, made less sense. We also couldn't afford to risk getting outs on the basepaths when we were trying to come from behind from significant deficits. You have to play it conservatively when playing from behind. Close, low-scoring games are the times to be more aggressive.
Also, all season long, our system was based on getting quality at-bats. Working the count and letting the guys swing was our philosophy. It worked pretty well, considering we were one of the nation's top offensive teams. Certainly Linkous and Thorburn always had the green light to try to bunt for base hits. And Kennard McDowell was a popular option to SAC bunt. But everybody else in the lineup was, for the most part, allowed to swing the bat rather than give the defense an out.
Small ball always has its place, and Scalf has been more than willing to use it in the past where needed. But this year, against SC, wasn't really one of those spots to do it.

This should point out that money for facilities & such is BIG. I hope coastal's performance inspires folks to help the Hawks do the same.

They're burning rebel flag boogie boards on the strip in their air-brushed championship t-shirts.
