Prior to the January Virginia Pilot article, most were predicting the value would hold steady or maybe even go up a bit. A handful said it would go down a bit. Virtually nobody said it would be cut by half---and absolutely nobody thought it would be below $500K.
Attitudes didn't start changing until vey early this year. Most everyone realized they would be in for a big cut once the Virginia Pilot article said the revenue would be down. Then a second report a few months later by the Pilot said revenue would be down by about $600K (followed shortly by another piece revealing that the old contract had already been adjusted downward back in 2013---a fact CUSA officials had successfully kept under wraps until the tax documents were reviewed by a columnist). Even the most optimistic CUSA fans became pretty realistic about the new contract once the pieces to the puzzle began to come together in the press. That's why there is no big melt down on the CUSA board. They had almost 6 months to get used to the idea.

There were still some over here recently saying it would be closer to 6 or 7 million a year. I don't think any of them thought it be below 500k, let alone below 300k per school.

They get 2 conference games on an ESPN network (plus 3 home games against P5's) ESPN also has rights to Title game
They get 6 games on CBSSports
They get 15 games on ASN
They get 10 games on Bein. Bein will host most non revenue sports
Rest go to ESPN3,
Total: 5 Million divided among 14 teams= Roughly 350K per school. However, each school must pay their own production costs, ala the MAC, so the actual value will be less than that for schools without much of the needed facilities to produce games.
Also, WKU loses their deal with Fox Sports again, which I'm sure their fans are THRILLED about.
No weekday games and for only 2 years, it could have been much worse I feel.
They would have made more had they committed to midweek games I think.
Weeknights are a lot of G5 value. Going two years is value killer as well.

I said all along the value would depend on what Fox's long term plan was. If they wanted to truly compete with ESPN and make FS2 more viable I thought they might get $14 million maybe a bit more. If they were going to keep FS2 niche and not try to really compete with ESPN3 it would go down. Not bothering to bid, I didn't factor.

RE: OT: ESPN In, Fox Sports Out in new CUSA TV Contract
It's stunning that Fox shut the door on CUSA. If your recall Banowsky picked Fox over ESPN several years ago and ESPN sued CUSA for breach of contract. Fox was a mainstay for CUSA for many years years.
When the new schools, LA Tech,WKU,North Texas,ODU etc joined the conference Fox Sports saw ratings dip. The new schools who jumped from the Sun Belt all bragged on this board about how superior they were to their old conference mates. It turns out however, that this group of schools all but destroyed the conference's relationship with Fox Sports.
Those schools believed that the loss of Houston,ECU, Memphis UCF etc, meant very little to Conf USA. Well, it turns out that jumping conferences could not change the perception or value of their programs.

FOX keeping every possible tv window open until the Big Ten deal goes through is my guess.
