Coach Tubby Smith brought a coaching team to Lubbock. It was a staff that was experienced in establishing winning programs by relating to players and motivating them to better performances.
When assistant coach Joe Esposito arrived in Lubbock, he stated they “came to build a quality program.” And they did.
The Tubby Smith program helped young men mature by developing a personal growth program for each player. A program to heighten their awareness of responsible behaviors, sharing and caring for others, hard work, teamwork, courtesy, manners and academic performance.
Tubby expects everyone to be treated with respect and dignity. Everyone who met the members of his teams felt the friendliness and sincerity of the players. Each player should graduate more confident and better-prepared to face the challenges in his future.
And there is the “first lady of basketball”, Mrs. Donna Smith. Her home was the players’ “home away from home”. It was a place to retreat from a hectic schedule and find food, fellowship and a patient listener.
Donna is as courteous and gracious as she is beautiful. A dedicated and tireless worker, she accepts and honors the trust parents have placed with the Tubby team.Put it all together, and you have a great coaching team that has distinguished itself at every level and every location.
Yes, I am sorry to see them leave, but am grateful they came.

I'll say it again, Texas Tech wanted Tubby to stay so bad they offered a million dollar per year raise, We wanted Pastner to go so much that we gave him over a million dollars to leave, yet some strange birds on here criticize Tubby before we even play a game, and people wonder why they are called Miserables.

Nice letter. I am looking forward to a coaching staff that can get players to play to their potential. This writer appears to say that Coach Smith does that.
From the video on Tubby's first day, where he met the returning players, I bet it really did bother him with the sitting handshakes he received from the team upon his entrance to the room. I guess he knows he has some work to do in the respect department with this group.
I am so glad to have an adult back in charge of things. He is just what we need around here, in spite of what the moron miserables say.

Where can I find the video of the players sitting while shaking Tubby's hand? I've got to see the depths to which Josh sunk us.....

You might find it on the gotigersgo.com website. Or if you are better at using the search function on the board here, it was linked in the thread about Tubby's first day on the job I think.... I'll see if I can have any luck with finding it, but don't count on it.

It is called PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
There is that little tidbit...
Almost every year the blue bloods are in the F4,with many 5 stars and multiple McD AAs. As the great coaches have said, you have to have the best horses to win the races.

While that is true, if you don't have blue chip recruits, then you have to be prepared to make a run every 4 years with a strong class. That's what happen before. A laurenburg class grows up and you add a DRose. Everyone saying that tubby just wants a good retirement forgets that he wants to leave the program to one of his assistants, right? Can't leave them garbage. Right?

Tubby Smith has a net worth of over 10 million dollars and probably wants to set coaching records. Everyone should not be saying Tubby just wants a good program to leave to someone.
I don't think it will be a far stretch for him to land better talent at Memphis than he did at any other stretch other than ky.
While I agree that the Championship teams are usually filled with 5* players, not all of them have been. There have also been very successful runs with teams without a major recruit in them. I think Memphis should be a blend of both. A couple of major players to go along with a stable of coachable talent that he gets the best out of their ability.
