Nice try, goober. LA Tech has met ODU exactly once in football, and that was in your little FCS house, when you guys came back late and won the game on a last second FG. Yes, you earned the win. True brain fart on LA Tech's part. But you have to admit, it was difficult for LA Tech to get up for a football game against ODU, a recent newbie from FCS. It was not exactly a brand name football team that we were playing.
As for men's BB, I don't think ODU ever played in Ruston until a couple of weeks ago. (For some reason, all the football and basketball games seem to be in Virginia.) ODU did stop Tech's long 39(?) game home win streak, but I think LA Tech did the same to ODU last year in Virginia.
Is that a rivalry yet? I'm just not feeling it.

It is still too early to claim any C-USA teams as rivals, but there are a few that are certainly promising for North Texas.
Rice- The Houston and Dallas markets are the biggest in Texas. The Halloween Game in Denton was a great start to the series.
UTSA- Although we have respect for the Runners, we still don't like them very much. San Antonio is a fun city to visit, so this series should grow into a good rivalry.
UTEP, and LA Tech also have potential for UNT.
Had some good games with MTSU back in the Belt, but you can't really maintain a rivalry when you don't play every year.

Probably need a few more games for this to become a rivalry

1. MTSU - Goes way back.
2. Marshall - relatively new but has potential. I respect them more than hate them right now.
3. UAB - Some history in the old Sun Belt. One of the closest teams to us.
4. UNT - We had some good basketball battles in the Sun Belt. Seemed like we played each other in the Sun Belt tourney every year there for a while.

i would say we have friendly rivalries with USM and MTSU.... Hatred is building toward WKU for obvious reasons... because evidently, there is a "sheriff" elected. but you've gotten us twice... Kudos...
But nowhere near the level of Miami, Toledo, or Furman...

You do know the higher number on the scoreboard determines the winner in basketball don't you? ODU stomped a mud hole in your guys last season in Norfolk (72 - 53).
Your guys did end an ODU home winning streak a year or two before last season. It also was the beginning of a new streak that went to 32 or 34 home games until UAB ended it last month. Our guys were just returning the favor this season at your place.
Now they owe a payback to UAB.

Hmmm... I don't think ODU has a true rival yet. Maybe Charlotte eventually?
Oh, and speaking of rivals, I would like ODU football or basketball to beat MT at some point.... Can't wait until the Planters Bowl ends in an ODU victory!

In reality ODUs rivals are VCU, GMU, ECU and JMU. In CUSA the closest we have is Charlotte, UAB and WKU. Marshall and MTSU are growing on me though. As is La Tech.

I am not sure UTSA has any real rivals yet.. They are just to new. I do think that UTEP and North Texas will be primary.. but its going to take time to develop. Texas St. I guess is still the main rival, but they don't play each other for another couple of years.
