There's a Lehigh fan with his panties in a bunch on AGS but that's to be expected for him.

I realize this is the off season but the smack, from both sides, is not relevant to this thread. Get it back on track.

Visit MB has a ton of money. It will be interesting to see if they give us money for the expansion, or do a sponsorship deal for the stadium with them to get some cash.

Visit Myrtle Beach was one of the primary sponsors for the Sun Belt this season. They must have a ton of cash.

The city of MB has a special penny tax where about 20% is used towards property tax reduction and about 80% is given to the MB Area Chamber to be used for out of market promotion. A couple of years ago it was worth about $20 million a year. So yeah ...

The tax expires in 2019 but I'm not sure if it can be automatically renewed or not.

The real questions is that the CHE has not given any guidelines on how much they would like for Coastal to have in donations before they will approve the project. They could receive a 1 million dollar donation and the CHE could still say we would like to see more.

All corrections aside, he hit the nail on the head.

Coastal has all their ducks in a row, and we are 100% ready to move forward and execute our plan to have an incredibly beautiful and perfectly sized stadium, but a few unelected "officials" on a power trip that want to keep the Clemson / SCar FBS stranglehold on the state are doing their best to steam roll it

Don't worry. The government is here to help.

I'm not sure how much SC and Clemson play into it. The CHE was blamed for SC State's situation by some politicians when in fact they had little to do with it. The whole higher ed system in SC is whacky in that each school has their own board and SC State's board wasn't doing what it needed to do. Each school also has to lobby for resources and can be protected by elected officials - SC State became untouchable as it was a political hot button issue.

But now the CHE is overreacting. They have overstepped the scope of the request and are being intentionally vague on the requirements - claiming they don't have the funding to do a proper analysis. They also are claiming that their concern is for the students and taxpayers of SC but that isn't accurate - Coastal gets a very low percentage of recurring state appropriations (less than 10%) and has some of the lowest in-state tuition from the group of comprehensive schools.

I agree with what you've stated. I highly doubt that this is an FBS thing and more of a " we aren't going to screw up like we did with SC State" thing.

I actually don't think it is that either - I think it is a political move since they were held accountable for SC State but had little control and want changes so they have more control and get resources. They won't make a move against SC or Clemson but will against us. Essentially they are unwilling to make a decision or provide clear goals / expectations until they get what they want.

We become an easy target because of the costs of athletic program and subsidies is big news - the rub is that most of the non-P5 programs in the state have high subsidies (even without football) but also get much more state support.

RE: CCU Stadium Expansion
Those of us over at CoastalFans who have been paying close attention to this process so far all know at this point that the CHE's continued declination of our request has much more to do with politics than it does with the actual numbers behind the project. The CHE is attempting to use this case as a way of flexing their muscle, as well as a way to show the State that they deserve a higher budget.

Because we aren't the only ones that have taken notice of this, I've been approached by two alumni - one of whom is an active member of my site, the other of whom is not - and have been asked to spearhead a petition aimed at encouraging Gov. Nikki Haley to intercede on our behalf and either 1) help us get approval, or 2) help us get a more concise answer from the CHE as to what we need to do to get this project approved.

I invite each and every one of you to sign our petition and show your support for CCU as we attempt to make this transition. Hopefully, with enough fan support, Gov. Haley will be forced to step in and assist us with this process.
