CHE vote or no, #CCU leaders are committed to making FBS transition. Expect more details today as to how they'll work around stadium setback

#CCU athletic committee chairman Gene Spivey: "We're fully committed to our transition to move to the Sun Belt and we are moving forward."

RE: CCU Stadium Expansion
“We did make the commitment to the Sun Belt Conference, which requires the stadium expansion. Our failure to meet that commitment could result in a number of things, the first being the negative media coverage that will hurt Coastal Carolina University for years,” DeCenzo continued in his opening address. “We have contracts with power-five schools which will pay us over $1 million per game; without being FBS we will never see that money, and worse yet we may have to break those contracts, which would result in a financial liability to us.

“But most importantly are the 25 recruits that we signed this year, eight of whom are from South Carolina. They start Coastal in the fall. Our failure to move this project along means our inability to meet NCAA requirements is in jeopardy, as would be our FBS standing. As a result we’d have to tell those 25 athletes that we cannot afford them the full scholarship they were promised when they signed with Coastal Carolina University. That to me would be the biggest tragedy of all.”

The Chants are not quite to that point yet, but the longer this process drags on, the tougher it is going to be to stay on any sort of anticipated timeline and the more serious the questions become.

IIRC, Your current stadium holds around 10k. Is there not a rather cheap way to add 5k seats, no matter how unattractive and temporary they may be, to meet the FBS requirement???

We have had Idahi and their way to small stadium in the league, seems like we could work something out with you guys as well.

$1million can go a long way in scaffolding and temp seating until you guys get approved and funding completed for the real deal.

Where would these 5,000 temp seats be added. remember behind one endzone is a road so that end of the field is out.

On the roof of the field house, and between the sideline and endzone bleachers.

Anywhere....you guys should be able to find an inexpensive short term solution to get past the FBS requirements.

Is re-routing University Drive south (through the soccer field) a possibility?

It is, but not possible yet although it is in the long-term plans. There is a plan to start a new soccer stadium next year. Thankfully it is all private funded lol.

How many can you actually get in that 10K stadium? Ours is 30K but we had 33K for TTech with additional bleachers and 32 for Navy without them.

9,400 is official capacity but we max out at 10,311 with SRO.

There is room on both ends of the sideline stadiums to add temporary bleachers.

If you cut down the trees across University Blvd, and put bleachers there, you reckon you can count them in attendance???? The view may suck though.....01-wingedeagle

Lol - probably not. But I think we could fill in the sides and perhaps even have some behind the west side stands.

The NCAA requirement is 15K average. It's never been inforced,I doubt it will. However to meet that 15K seating average I think you would have to surpass 15K a few games to carry the lightly attended games. Good luck in meeting your requirement, I just wish JMU would have jumped when ODU, Charrlotte, and App St did. I think we missed the boat due to an Admin that still wishes to drag thier feet. We play in a FBS size stadium that would rival lots of G5 stadiums, but yet here we are still FCS. Lots of frustrated fans here.03-hissyfit

Serious question. Why is your stadium so one sided? Surely y'all could have built something more symmetric with a similar capacity and potential for expansion.

Looks like you have corner gaps on the stadium? Is there room there?

You do have the facilities, but not the leadership. And now with Virginia politics, your chances have probably passed you by.

CCU will be in the SBC in 55 days whether the CHE likes it or not. They need to get over themselves and approve the upgrades.

JMU's stadium in part 2 of a 3 stage build. What you see on the otherside is left over from our 15k seat stadium. Phase 3 will tear down that part and give us 50k seating cap. its on hold until we decide where we land. Upgrade videos are on youtube if you want the see the completed project. 1 year project to complete the 3rd phase.

Yes ... the money isn't the issue for Coastal - we planned to bond out the cost just like your example. The CHE just isn't approving our plan ... have to work through the new political landscape since this new CHE chair took over last October.

Shhhhhhhh. He's not going to understand truth and reason.
